The use of those colours really gives off that whole wasteland vibe to it. It also sets off a nice vibe, that feeling of solitude.
That composition is to die for. I'm also really loving the warm and cool colors here :)

It seems everyone else has taken the words right of my mouth: the muted colors, the landscape and sky, all contribute to the mood you have so perfectly captured here! What is a lone ape to do in such a mighty barren land? His posture speaks loudly as well as the horse's as to what condition they are in. The uncertainty of life is reflected so wonderfully here.
Love those clouds and the sand/dust storm below. I am absolutely in love with this image. Thank you soooooo much. Like I said, well worth the wait.
