The coasts of eastern Elysium are patrolled by a bizarre armored reptile known as the Shellbane. These 3-5 meter long creatures spend a large part of the day resting in coastal caves and among rocks, waiting for low tide. Once the water recedes, they lumber out of their dens and begin to scour the beaches in search of clams, sea slugs, and crabs, which are their main source of food. On rare occasions, they were observed to dig up sea turtle eggs. Their robust, clawed limbs are excellent for digging up any morsels that are hidden in the sand, and their powerful, beaked jaws make short work of any shell they bite down on.

Shellbanes are fairly docile and introverted creatures, preferring to be left to their own devices. They don't mind being watched by humans as long as they are left alone and their food is not threatened.

These creatures rely mainly on their armor for protection against predators.
Despite the vague similarity, they are not related to ankylosaurs.
