Tried and Tested
A Thursday Prompt story

Prompt: empirical
The golden Labrador was tall and slightly stooped, wearing black trousers that had shiny worn patches on the knees, a shirt with a stained collar, and an immaculate white lab coat. His headfur was gray, long, and wildly disarrayed as he stood in his laboratory and looked down at his client.
His client, a shorter and slightly younger Weimaraner in a suit, looked up at him. “Do you have it?” he asked.
The mad scientist grinned maniacally, showing all his teeth before saying, “Yes! I have it here, all ready to go!” He gestured grandly toward a glass jar on the lab counter.
The Weimaraner gave a slow, happy sigh and smiled. “Excellent, Doctor. I must remember to thank Doctor Nafarious for referring me to you.” He tore his gaze away from the jar and asked, “Has it been tested?”
“Yes. One hundred percent effectiveness,” the Labrador declared. “I selected a small sample population, infected one person, and observed its spread.” He smiled proudly. “It’s perfect.”
The client gave him a sudden wary look. “I take it that you weren’t – “
“Oh no,” the mad scientist said. “I made certain that I would not be exposed.” There was a pause. “So . . .”
“Yes.” The Weimaraner pulled out his phone and used his cash app to download the scientist’s fee to the Labrador’s account, adding a generous tip. “There you go. Of course, I was never here.”
“That won’t be a problem.”
“Perfect.”
“Good. Here,” and the mad scientist gave his client the large glass jar of glitter. “Have fun, but don’t get too close.”
