There are some things that I only ever really see in my head, and because of my utter lack of any kind of artistic talent, that's where those ideas tend to stay: inside my head. Which kinda sucks, because I like some ideas so much that I wish I could tell, or better yet show other people, but I just can't do anything that would give my ideas justice (I seriously suck at drawing that much). However, when you have some extra cash and you know other people who actually can draw, things start opening up to you. You may not be able to draw yourself, but you can certainly pay someone to draw something for you.
So that's where this comes from, generally. For the most part, though, this comes from something that's been rather bugging me for the longest time, minor and insignificant though this may be.
In Kamen Rider OOO, the titular henshin hero uses a selection of three items known as Core Medals slotted into his belt in order to take on one of a very large number of forms (roughly 126 cannon forms, with many many other official, but non-cannon forms). Each medal set is a specific color (birds get red, insects get green, etc) and has a particular Greeed [sic] to go with it, the Greeed being the villains for this series. Now... there's a Greeed for birds, one for insects, one for animals that live in the ocean, one for very large land mammals (elephants and such), one for felines, and one for dinosaurs (but this also included mythical animals, like unicorns and such, as well). Now, naturally, there are probably many, many other animal groups that could have been used, but there's one in particular that some people notice, but one they also don't quite get.
I've seen maybe one or two other OOO fanart out there that tries to incorporate wolves (because they are badass) into a form, but they don't stick with it. They still use the brown color scheme, but they use other animals that don't relate to wolves, like bears, or hogs. The thing about a combo, or a medal set in general, is that the medals have to have a solid theme going with them, and that theme is something that other OOO fanart of the same subject don't really get, at least in my opinion.
So that's where I come in. With my vast expendable time, I decided to try my hand coming up with a form for OOO that worked with a solid, consistent theme and incorporated that Canid group that's oddly absent from the main series (seriously, there wasn't even any canine medals that were dummied out of the toys). I even threw in the source Greeed, for fun.
So here we have the Howling Combo, which uses the Ookami (Wolf), Jackal, and Kitsune (Fox) medals. The Ookami Medal grants the power of night vision, the Jackal medal outfits your hands with spikes, and the Kitsune medal gives you the power of Flash Step. For using all three medals in the same form, you have the power to cast illusions to confuse enemies.
The Greeed itself is fairly simple, as I just decided to try and base it off typical Hollywood werewolves. Also, the thing behind him in the image is a colored sheet; in the main series, each Greeed gets one that acts as some kinda post-modernism symbolic prop thingy whatever, and while it didn't occur to me to ask for it when I commissioned the image, I like that it was tossed in there as well.
I'm very, very, VERY happy with the outcome, and
deserves so much credit for a fantastic job well done.
