......
Robyn's head is throbbing painfully as her ears ringed and a pained groan escapes her lips.
Everything was dark at first, she could see nothing, but she could feel the sensation and hear the muffled sound of cool rain droplets falling from the sky and trickling down her face and body as she lie flat on her back on the wet ground beneath her.
Suddenly, a strange voice calls out her name.
Just like with the rain drops, it's muffled at first, sounding more like incomprehensible garbles than actual human speech. But as the throbbing in her head started to clear up, the sounds of the rain and the unknown voice slowly became sharper and much clearer to understand.
"Robyn?...Robyn, baby, can you hear me? Oh please wake up, sweet pea!"
This voice definitely didn't belong to her mother.
Just who on earth was this person?
How did they even know Robyn's name?
Her vision slowly starts to become clearer as well.
No longer seeing nothing but a black void, but now she sees the glum greys and blues of the overcast skies, the rain pouring from the clouds, and even...
A beautiful pink flower clutched tightly in her hands?
Where did this plant come from again?
The strange voice calls out her name again.
"Robyn?...Baby, can you sit up? Oh goodness, look at you, you're all banged up! Here, let me clean you off. Oh, Johanna would die if she saw you like this."
A stray Mightyena?
No, it was Magenta, the family pet, but...the voice was...coming from her?
Clear as day, this Pokémon was speaking human language?!
Robyn thinks to herself that she must've hit her head much harder than she originally thought.
As Magenta licks the bloody scrapes on her head and arms,
Robyn slowly opens her mouth and begins to speak.
"M-Magenta...How are you---doing that?
When did you---When did you learn to talk---like people?"
Magenta stops mid lick.
Her ears perk as she quickly snaps her head up to meet Robyn's weary gaze, a look of surprise paints her face.
"Honey, are you---saying that you can understand me now?"
Robyn nods her head slowly, still sore and feeling a dull ache in her tiny neck and back.
She shuts one of her eyes, to keep the blood trickling down her head from further obscuring her vision. Magenta is quick to lap up the blood and clean the small wound.
"Uh-huh. I can hear your voice. Y-you sound pretty."
She responds shakily.
"You really CAN hear what I'm saying!
How on earth is something like this even possible?
Just yesterday, like any other human, you couldn't understand a single thing I said. But here we are now, speaking clearly to each other with no trouble whatsoever. Robyn, honey...Can you tell me...what exactly happened to you before I got here?"
"I don't know if I can remember much."
"That's okay sweetie, just try your best."
"Uhm...You know how mama's favorite flowers are always pink ones?
Well, when you and her were still having the picnic, and I went off to play, I saw a funny-looking Pokémon that I had never seen before. It was really small, and green and white colored. It was really cute...But also, I saw that it was covered in a bunch of pretty pink flowers. Never really seen those before either...I wanted to get a better look at it, so when it ran off, I chased after it."
Robyn raises her head to the sky, gazing at the grey clouds, as the faint sprinkles of rain wash away the remaining trails of blood on her body.
"I got really focused on chasing after that funny Pokémon, that I didn't even notice that the sky turned gray. I only paid attention once the rain started falling. I wanted to come back to you and mama, but then I heard that little Pokémon cry."
Robyn raises her arm, and points a finger up toward a nearby, small cliff face.
"That's when I saw the little Pokémon up there looking down at me. I'm not sure how it got up there, really...It's not like it had wings to fly. But that's when I noticed the bunches of pink flowers, they looked just like the ones covering its body...I thought mama would like them if I got them for her."
"You...tried to climb all the way up there on your own?!"
"Uh-huh. I thought they'd make mama really happy if I got her some.
I got close enough to grab one of 'em, but then---I slipped."
Robyn's eyes start to widen, as blurred bits of her memory of the incident slowly returned to her.
"I remember---a loud screech...Big wings, and...
A bright yellow light...Gold light."
Magenta's ears flatten in concern as she notices the tone of Robyn's voice becoming slow and monotone as her expression looked almost empty. She's never seen her behave this way before.
"Then---then that's when I woke up, and I saw that the Pokemon and those flowers were gone. And then you showed up, and you started talking, and...a-and..."
Large wet tears form in the child's eyes, as her face contorts into a puckered frown. The shock from her body begins to wear off as her dazed state fades and the achiness from the bruises during her traumatic falling is finally registering to her brain.
"I want---*hic!*--- I want my mama! I wanna go home! *hic!* "
She cries out.
"Oh no, Shhh-shhh-shhh, it's okay now baby.
Magenta's here with you now, and she'll take good care of you.
C'mon, let's you get you on my back now. Up-up!"
Magenta gently nudges Robyn with her cold, wet nose to stand up, then placing her head under Robyn's arm, giving her a bit of leverage to climb onto her back, despite her little legs still being sore and feeling wobbly like jelly.
"There we go, nice and comfy, I hope?
That's a good girl, hold on tight to my mane, wouldn't want you to fall off and get anymore nasty scrapes! Now let's go back and find your mama, she's been worried sick about you since you wandered off. Once we're all back home and cleaned up, how about we watch one of your favorite movies and fill our tummies up with as much Juice and snacks as we can stomach, huh?"
Robyn doesn't respond at first, she was much too busy feeling Magenta's mane, slick and wet from the rain, but still beautiful and somewhat soft. A familiar sensation that had always brought her comfort whenever she was distressed.
But then something else caught her attention, the pink flower she had picked from before her fall was still clutched tightly in her hand. In contrast to the dull grey landscape surrounding them, this odd flower seemed to be the only thing shining with bight, vibrant color. Its petals glistened with the fallen raindrops that had landed on it, looking similar to gemstones.
Though still feeling a bit rattled from her injuries, Robyn couldn't help but smile, as she knew deep within her heart that this one magnificent flower was absolutely worth all the trouble, and is sure to make a fantastic gift for her mother. Feeling slightly better about it all, she finally answers to Magenta.
"Okay---*sniff!*---
Can we watch Beauty and the Bibarel?
I like that one."
Magenta smiles warmly.
"Sure thing, sweetheart, anything you like!""Your trickery almost cost that poor child her life, you know.
You should be more careful. Had I not been around in the area, she would have perished."
"It was no trick, I swear by it!
I---I really was just trying to play with her.
Her gratitude to her two mothers was just so great,
it drew me out straight to her. I truly didn't mean for her to get hurt,
I just thought she would appreciate the flowers."
"Regardless of that, you should be more mindful of them.
The humans are not like us, much less so than the average Magical Creature. They are fragile things."
"Yes, I understand, Lightbringer.
I will try to be more--considerate--next time.
I won't let it happen again."
"You know, when I held her, I saw many things in her life.
What has happened, and what is to come. Both the good and the terrible.
I was not expecting my gift of life to her to also bring about such a peculiar side effect. That has never happened before."
"That certainly is strange. If only the Almighty Father were still here with us. He would probably know why such a thing has happened."
"Perhaps...But he is still resting. We should not bother him with such trifle matters. In the mean time, I believe I shall keep my eye on this human child. Everything about her so far has piqued my interest."
"Ah, you are still searching for that special kind of human, yes?
Do you think your sons will approve?"
"Ha! You still know me so well after so many centuries, little friend.
But she is as much a part of me now as I am to her. I do not think this will be the last time we'll see each other. I believe we will meet again someday when the time is right...
And I am certainly looking forward to it."And so the build-up to the plot of Strike!: A HeartGold Story thickens! 😁Also, here's my headcanon voice claim for Ho-oh if anyone's curious!:
