The team's together again and practicing after a short offseason. Our GM went out and made the bold moves that he needed to make. We can roll some serious talent throughout our top three lines.
Yeah, I think I'm ready for some hockey...San Jose Sharks style!
I'm so encouraged this year, I gave my wallet a workout today and purchased tickets for three regular season games...the most I have since I owned a 10 game pack 8 years ago. The Tank's a good three hours away from my house, but I'm already looking forward to the trek back and forth, because I'm pretty certain I'll be rewarded. :)
Anyway, this was created by my FFH teammate
beino and gifted to me by the awesome
dieselrottie earlier this year. Seemed like the time was right to roll it out.
Let's drop the puck! :D

I'll sort of post my own post-mortem on the early season optimism. Right now, SJ is in a dogfight just to make the playoffs. The moves that Wilson made pre-season didn't make the impact I expected. Losing Seto and Heatley drastically impacted their scoring ability and the addition of Burns didn't make enough of a defensive impact to assist the other way. In fact, I'd go so far as to call Brent Burns almost a total bust. Niemi's been average and I was really quite surprised Dougie didn't try to move him at the trading deadline, since Griess has shown he can handle the action at least as well. Thornton and Marleau? Pfft....please act like you care guys!
On the other hand, Pavelski and Couture are really showing they're the true leaders of the franchise. I'd also throw Murray and Vlasic into that mix. Coaching? McLellan worked wonders with this team, but when your special teams are as putrid as the Sharks, you've gotta take some responsibility for that. I won't be surprised to see him go.
I'm bitter because this was a waste of immense talent that was collected over the last 10 years. I know over the season they're going to turn a corner on what they've built up, but who knows how long it's going to take to get it back to contending levels. I just hope they do it right the next time.
Baseball time folks. See ya next season.
