A picture of some fat dude in Memphis' Legendary Sun Studios, posing with a classic ribbon mic the tour guide said was used at Sun during the 50's.

The tour is worth seeing not just for fans of Elvis, but it's also a 50's audio gear geeks heaven. Lots of old guitars, recording equipment, tape decks, mics, speakers etc on display etc. And it only cost me just 12 Bucks, it's worth it to check out what many have said is the "birthplace of Rock & Roll". http://www.sunstudio.com/
Here's my photos and a short video from the tour: http://photobucket.com/sunstudios2011
Picture taken by somebody on the tour who was happy to take my picture, I'm glad they got a nice clear shot!!

I should have asked the tour guide if those old Ampex recorders were the ones that were used there in the 50's.
I cant remember where it exactly was on this site, http://www.elvisrecordings.com/ But Sam Phillips would run 2 Ampex tape recorders at the same time. One for the slapback echo and the other to record the final mix. And some of the "echo tapes" that survived of Johnny Cash's Sun recordings were running as slow as 7 1/2 IPS!
