That's how it went in the fairy tale at least :) She was eaten whole and saved by the huntsman.
But it's up to you really to interpret how you'd like to imagine she contracted her lycanthropy. Maybe she was "eaten" in a different fashion.

Not quite. More like maybe the wolf ate her out rather than ate her up.
But again, it's really up to whomever views it to decide in their minds how she got it ^^
