--EDIT-- I've been informed that a few folks are experiencing sound-picture synchronisation issues with the Flash file. If you do have such problems, I'd recommend trying the Youtube link above instead.
Those who have been following my scraps and journals recently may be aware that I have been working on an animation project based on Family Guy involving Brian and Stewie Griffin. Having drawn both characters several times before, I came up with an idea back in March this year for a short sequence which builds somewhat on my parody of the Family Guy episode "Road to the Multiverse" from last year entitled "Road To The Macroverse" - except instead of a growth scenario, I opted for a shrinking one.
As is often the case with my work, I made little effort to keep track of how long this project was taking me. I started it in mid-March and worked quite intensively on it for a couple of weeks before putting it on the back burner for most of the summer. Given that I am set to lose much of my free time once I return to University in October however, I decided to resume work on the project in the hope of getting it finished before my course starts. On the whole, I would estimate it took around 6 weeks spread over that 6 month period.
To make a few things clear: as most people will be fully aware, obviously Family Guy and the characters of Brian and Stewie Griffin are the creations of Seth MacFarlane (Fuzzy Door Productions/Twentieth Century Fox), and the style of this animation is basically a slightly crude imitation of his work. In addition, the voices of the characters and a number of other sound and music samples were sourced from episodes of the show. On my part, the story is of my own creation, and the drawing and animation of all the visuals - both foreground and background layers - was executed by myself. I also compiled and mixed the soundtrack, combining the samples sourced from the show with a collection of my own sound effects recorded by myself, and the Flash file was programmed by myself as well.
Whilst this is fundamentally a macro/micro crush animation, I have tried to make it entertaining in its own right with a number of references to the show that fans will most likely recognise. Family Guy is obviously an adult programme which has never been shy to showcase gratuitously graphic violence, but whilst the actions and sound effects of this animation are in keeping with that tradition, I have sought to keep the visuals 'tame' enough for a general audience and avoid making it too dark in nature. Hence, that is why Stewie is depicted coming out of the experience relatively unscathed despite plenty of suggestion that he should be reduced to a bloody pulp!
On a technical note: I have attempted to make this animation available in a variety of formats in the hope that nobody will experience difficulties trying to watch it. Though I have endeavoured to make it smaller, the preloading SWF Flash file itself is perhaps a little on the large side for some connections at approximately 3.5 MB, so bear in mind there could be a long loading time if you are on a slow speed. Alternatively, there is a lower quality MP4 version at 14 MB which is available to download (click here). Also, for the first time, I have uploaded this animation to my Youtube account (click here) should you wish to view it there. I have experienced some sound-picture synchronisation issues when watching in some players, but hopefully this won't be a problem for the majority of viewers.
This has been my most ambitious project ever and, whilst the 1 min 30 secs running time ranks it with the shortest of the shorts by professional animating standards, it is also by far the longest and best animation I have ever created. It has been a great deal of hard work, time and effort, but I'm delighted that the final product has come out looking so close to my original conception of it 6 months ago.
Comments and feedback very much welcome as always, and if you have any problems viewing the animation in any format, please don't hesitate to get in touch with me via PM or email.

I didn't, nor did I know I was supposed to! Trouble is the audio is actually just one giant mp3 mix rather than a collection of clips, and I've used multiple scenes so 'stream' doesn't seem to play beyond the first cut.
I'm a bit of a newb with sounds on Flash though - any tips?

Yeah, someone else mentioned that. Might depend on the connection speed or something cos it works all right for me and seems to be okay for others.
I foresaw such problems though, hence the Youtube and MP4 versions. Try one of those and let me know if it works.

Dunno. Maybe it's related to how I published the Flash file or how I added the sounds to the project. As I've said to others, I don't really know much about this sort of thing as this was my first attempt at doing so in Flash, so I probably did something wrong. If it's working well enough for many people though, I don't really know what causes it other than connection variations.
Still, as long as the Youtube one is consistent then there's something for everyone.

Hmm. It might be related to connection speed - the soundtrack and animation have been synchronised properly throughout but I also had some problems when converting to certain formats, so it's always a possibility.
Try one of the Youtube or MP4 versions listed in the description - might work better for ya.

Heh - sequels sound nice but no, I'm afraid it's highly unlikely. As I've said to others, this is the biggest animation project I've ever done, and I doubt I'll ever be able to do another one because I'm not sure I'll ever again get the same sort of free time that I've been enjoying lately.
I guess I'm the only one here to not like it as much as the others here, I thought it was well-animated and funny, and I can't wait to see more of your dabbling in animation. But I feel the potential is wasted since you were using someone else's licensed characters. Now if you did the same thing with some of your characters, then that might be better.
Great animation, Great use of the characters, Keep pushing yourself.
You get an 8.5 out of ten,
Good, but there is room for improvement, But I'm definitely keeping my eyes open for a sequel.

I don't personally think the use of such characters is that big a deal. To be fair, myself and much of the furry fandom use licensed characters for our own purposes - it provides us with the means to depict them in ways they have never been used before. We might not have designed the characters themselves, but the creativity there lies in how you use them.
I could certainly do the same thing with my own characters, and indeed in the past, I have animated my own characters on plenty of occasions. But this was the idea I was in the mood for, and in many ways, the simplistic style of Family Guy made it more possible for me to complete this project in the time available.
As far as a sequel goes, don't bet on it, or indeed any more animations from me. This was the biggest project I've ever undertaken and I doubt I'll ever have time or motivation to do another one.
Anyway, thank you for your input.

I don't think it is a big deal either, it is just something that I shy away from myself, because I always have that lingering thought in the back of my mind that someone could do it a lot better, and they usually can. If I did any fanworks, It'd mostly be an Ironic re-imagining of the subject matter in a different view, like depicting a videogame character in a darker context, etc.
At least you had the drive to do this, I still have to do the artwork for a comic I wrote a script to, but I can't find the drive to actually draw it.

Heh - oh don't get me started on artistic drive. To be fair, I worked on this solid for two weeks in March and then I don't think I touched it again until early September because I couldn't really be bothered with it! And if we're gonna talk about not finishing comics, you've got some way to go before you can out-procrastinate my "First Time" comic...
but ... I ALWAYS watch Family Guy "that way", rooting and cheering for Brian's doggy paws to totally pwn Stewie or anyone deserving of that treatment!
In reality, many dog owners love the feel and scent of their doggie paws. Someone even used dog paw scent as part of a perfume!

Holy moly, your animating is getting better and better. I like this little homage to the series, even though, I'll admit, I stopped watching many months ago. I look forward to see what more you can do on your free time, and I hope that the way you're going about everything will pay off.
Thanks very much, Modem. Sadly I fear free time is going to be an increasingly rare quantity for me from now on - I've been unemployed since Christmas and I don't think I will ever have - or indeed want to have - another spell out of work like this, even if it costs me ever being able to do stuff like this again.
I've got a little bit longer before I start uni so I wouldn't rule out the possibility of me getting something else done in the meantime, but I'm a bit pooped artistically after working pretty solid on this animation for a while now, so it may be some time before you see more work from me.
But thank you for the comment. And I've not seen much of the latest series of FG myself - personally I enjoyed it more in its earlier days, but occasionally a gem still pops up in the later series, 'Road To the Multiverse' being one in my view.

Lol! I'm hesitant to say there are a few Family Guy sceptics around who might agree with you there, but then again, that's what happens to a cartoon if you don't put gratuitous stomp/crush/vore scenes in it.
The Simpsons, on the other hand...
Lol!
Thanks, Alpha!

Absolutely, very much relieved to have finally finished it. I've been working solid on it for much of the past two weeks, so I've almost gotten sick of looking at it now!
Glad it was worth it though. And I had to throw in some toe-spreading. I'd toyed with some curling too but it didn't seem to look right - maybe cos Brian doesn't tend to move his toes much.
Heh! Thanks!

*chuckles* - oh yes? Well that's unfortunate - I'm already starting a journalism course next week!
Lol!!
Animation's a hobby of mine but I get a gut feeling that it'd probably do my head in as a job. 2D stuff can be so painstaking sometimes and the biggest temptation is to take shortcuts to speed up the process, but then you compromise on quality. I've not tried 3D animation before so I don't know what the challenges are like in that medium, but I dare say it's similarly demanding.
Anyway, thanks for your support!

Thanks very much! And I would dearly love to finish that Hux animation, but I'm not sure I ever will. I got as far as animating one scene with sounds but it's miles behind this in terms of progress and I doubt I'll have the time to complete it.
Still, thanks for the comment!

Oh man, this was good XD As much as it's improbable to happen in Family Guy, I can see it could fit in their humor haha. Great use of the original voice clips, and I LOVE the "Ffffff-ahhhhhh" reference at the end XD
Great job there, I hope all your efforts paid off enough for your expectations <3

I don't usually comment on peoples art but this...my god this was great work. Too bad it has copyrighted characters then it would of been a great portfolio peace.
The sound was awesome in my opinion, had that Family Guy theme to it with your style of course and the style....well i actually liked it more then the show because that crude look reminds me of the older cartoons like the Simpsons or South Park. I loved it and ate it up completly, if we had ratings i would give this 5 stars.
Amazing work like always, sorry i don't comment often XP

It did, and a lot of thinking too - I basically had to think of suitable moments in episodes then try and find the damn things before getting the samples together, and all that had to be done before I could even try integrating them into the animation!
But thank you!
But thank you!
Heh - well there is a certain amount of playing with the style here, so as much as I tried to stay relatively faithful to the original, I also wanted to infuse it with my own approach where I felt appropriate. Truthfully though, pretty much every damn frame is off model by professional standards! Lol!
Anyway, thank you!
Anyway, thank you!
Wow! This is amazing! I normally don't comment on your stuff simply because there's so many already, but I really had to this time. The audio clips from the show were amazing! It could pass off as an actual scene from the show, they fit so well. Must've taken a while to gather them all up. I'm in awe 8D
RRRex, you did an amazing, wonderful job! Damn, it looks taken by thge original cartoon!
And, as I tell you many oftern, feet which aren't so interesting to me... in your paws became SO HOT!
Wonderful stomps! ... I'm quite sure you'll kill my heart about the King Koopa animation ;)

Heh - well as much as I know you'd enjoy it, I'm afraid that King Koopa animation might never be finished. It would be just as ambitious (if not more so) than this project, and as much as I made a certain amount of progress on it, I doubt it'll ever be completed.
But glad you could enjoy this one! And thanks for the comment.

Whether or not I get some sort of loop done from that animation, I don't know. There are several scenes already animated, but I wanted to do a full-length animation with them rather than spoiling it by showing everybody each scene or the best frames prematurely.
I'll make a decision on that depending on whether I ever get round to working more on it.

I though you were gone Rexar, you didn´t post anything in a while, guessing this was the reason? anyway nice job, the voices, design, everything was spot on, good show old chap. Btw thanks to you i looked at many ..... interresting art works from many differant artist´s so thank you, your man .
Well for much of the summer I didn't really have enough freedom to work on things like this. Then during September, this was pretty much all I worked on, hence I probably looked like I'd gone rather quiet.
Truthfully, I'd get used to it if I were you - now I'm back doing a full-time course at university, I dare say I won't be getting much art done between now and Christmas.
Thanks anyway!

*many comments later, gets to the end* There really should be a comment box at the top of the page like in DeviantArt XP (I do know about Ctrl + Home/End ;3 I just keep a record of a select number of FAs on excel for fun)

Hehe I love this animation, hehe it's done very well! =) Even I had a desync with the audio/video like other viewers on this, but still, I loves it. ^^ Loves the wiggling toes too.

X3 that's bad too, because my scroll wheel is also dead too, and is very very sensitive. If i just tap it lightly, it'll scroll. But, I had that mouse for 6+ years, and it's cool, transparent and lights up :3 got it from a friend in the UK. but yeah, I saw the youtube one ^^ ish cools. yep.
Hmm. So are you a honey badger's uncle?
Lol!
Yes, it was ambitious - for me, anyway. The tag "enthusiastic amateur" would apply and I really struggle to find time to finish any of my animations, but I actually wanted to show that I could complete something of this standard/magnitude.
Thanks very much!
