This is a heavily weathered model of CMStP&P #281.
This Athern locomotive was heavily modified internally with a can motor with double the flywheel mass of OEM. The trucks also had a regear kit that allowed this engine to effortlessly creep SMOOTHLY along at nearly zero MPH on up. It was an awesome switcher and with all of the added lead weight it could pull nearly 100 40' and 50' free-rolling cars on level track.
It had constant lighting before that was a common feature, including switchable front and back and sill/creep lights for the front trucks using Cir-Kit Concepts, Inc. microbulbs.
The shell is a stock Athern shell, with stock paint and horns. Antenna, spark arrestors, pilots, hoses, MU boxes, brake piping and side number boards are either bronze, Delrin or lead add-ons.
Here is the real #281

This was later MNVA #281 and then DMVW #281 and the nose was chopped.
I do not know if this locomotive is operational

that's one thing i've not done, is try to model a specific individual prototype unit. but then of course my intent was not to reproduce what is, but speculatively what could be. i did detail an athern gp-35 as it might look on a short line that repainted it after inhieriting it second hand from the sp, with sp's typical addtional lights, snow plow pilot, and in this case the ice cicle bars that are on the units used to pull flangers.
