There are often times when I feel people don't really understand depression. It's not something you can just pick yourself up by your bootstraps. It is a crushing horrible monster, but thankfully more people are starting to understand that and get help.
But it's also a shadow, always following...always worse in the dead of night when you're alone.
I've been dealing with my depression for a long time. It's been a while since I needed medication, even therapy, but there's still times when I can feel that monster clawing its way back into my mind.
It scares me sometimes that I might fall back into my depression.
Before anyone gets worried. I am okay, this was prompted by an artjam with a "broken" theme and I did this purely for practice. A quick 2 hour pic that's the opposite of the super happy toons I've been drawing lately

Winston Churchill described it as a black dog, and the super famous quote is why doesn't someone "just shoot the damned dog".
It really is a horrible illness, and I'm glad it's becoming less stigmatised in society. It runs through the females in my family and through the males in my bfs family (we're gonna have fucked up kids!) but it's so much easier to get it recognised. There is still a looooong way to go, but we're getting there in terms of help.

I have deemed this not as sad as yo yo face because there isn't as much shock value to it.
I think this really turned out nicely, though. I especially like what you did with her ears and eyes. Gives it that sad expression.
Also, feel free to text or message me if you're ever feeling down and need someone to talk to. :)

Yeah, this is about how I am right now. It's not something that will leave you alone if you ignore it. There's something about a person that depression likes and it will stick around.
I do like the lighting in this picture too. The use of cold blue for a light source is an interesting (in a good way) choice as it's a more hostile light fit for something moody like this. As usual, your mixture of human and animal anatomy does the trick. I also like the use of the ears in expressing sadness. I'd say the one complaint I have is the broken glass lines look a bit thick, but it's no big deal. This is a very good-looking piece and it gets its message across.
