A shame there's little way to do that in WoW without actually limiting oneself to crafted goodies.. could be a potential gold sink if they allowed (for a fee), items to be temporarily unbound for the purposes of mailing, but which cannot be AH'd. Spiral Knights recently implemented such a feature and it's quite handy for such occassions.
