Something about mixing the genes of jellyfish with that of cats/dogs/foxes.
The skin is light-reactive of these animals, and the fur also reacts in special lighting.
It's fairly crazy actually.
And as much as I'm really against genetic tampering, I cant help but violently suppress the wee voice that goes 'OMG I WANT A GLOWY KITTY!!!'

actually they mixed those glowing genes with bio-indicators which then would connect to certain cells in the cat. and if that works, they can aim them at tumor cells, for example, or add other functions as well. :) if I recall right, the pigment the indicators carry is UV-reactive.
yeah that was the bulk of what I read too... tho they DID end up being colorfully reactive in the end.. the pigments changed in their tissues, not just a targeted cell group.
