A sculpture I made for this year's Bricks Along the Journey auction. One wolf is offering the other a pink ribbon in a symbolic way of offering support to those who must suffer through breast cancer.
Bricks Along the Journey is a wonderful non-profit organization in Cincinnati that artists can donate to and all the money recieved in the auction goes to breast cancer research. It was started by a woman who had breast cancer herself, and she said it felt like "a ton of bricks" hit her. So she started this project, and every year it gains in size. Unfortunately, she lost the battle, but it is carried on by her friend Beth, whom I personally know. If you wish to find out more about this organization you can visit breastcancerbricks.org. http://breastcancerbricks.org/
This year's auction will take place October 30th, 2011 at the Schiff Conference Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. Everything is free, the parking, admission, and food is availiable at the auction as well. I'll be volunteering there, and if you happen to live nearby, please come and take a look. Even if you don't buy anything, the bricks that these people turn in, amateur and proffessional alike, are stunning. It's a great experience.
It was quite hard to part with this. That is real moss I glued around the brick.
Super Sculpey, acrylic paint, and Sculpey Glaze were used for the sculptures.
