I wasn't interested in cars when I was young, until I went to Frankfurt when I was about 8 years old and saw a black 1930s Mercedes on display next to some vintage airplanes. I fell in love with the car and told myself that when I own a car, it will be one like it. I wonder if this could be the same car I saw when I was in Frankfurt?
My first car was a 1923 Ford Model T Touring, but now all I drive are vintage Mercedes diesels.

I currently have a 1967 Mercedes "prototype" fintail station wagon and a 1980 Mercedes 300SD, which is my daily driver. I plan on keeping both of these cars for life. I used to drive a 1968 Mercedes 200D fintail, but it had terminal rust.
The car I saw in Frankfurt was the real deal. My father took me to a museum outside of the airport. One side was vintage airplanes, and one side was vintage automobiles. We looked at the vintage airplanes, but he wasn't interested in looking at the vintage cars. The one I saw was a black 1930s Mercedes sedan, exactly like this one. That's the car that started my interest in them.
Then later on we had neighbors from Syria who brought their taxi with them. It was a yellow 1960s Mercedes fintail (had the reflective triangles on the back, interior tassles, and all). It was my new favorite car in the world and I would always wave to them when they'd get behind the school bus.

I know what you mesan. Old Mercedeses are awesome, beautyfull cars (new ones are non-too shabby either, seen my pics of the F-125 prototype from IAA?) But my favorite classic cars are still classic Opel (pre-1980s, when the GM appearantly tried to kill off the brand with shitty design and crap quality...). Opels alwayslooked a bit like scaled down american cars, thats probably since the company was directly owned by GM 1929-2010. You see the american influence here, especially in their cars from the 1930 to 1970s.
I just looked at the F-125 prototype. I also saw that you have pictures of a Tatra 603 and a Citroen DS! Those are two of my favorite cars. That and the bathtub Nashes from 1949 and 1950. My all-time favorites are diesel Mercedes, though.
Old Opels are really neat cars. They are almost non-existent here in the USA, but I know that overseas they were very popular in their day and they have quite a following.

I think one my fave car from the ones I took photos of has to be the 1938 Opel Admiral convertible. Now thats a beauty in all of its art deco glory!
