Well I seem to be over the worst of the crud I picked up a few days ago. Moving on, In my last posting in the MLP/ Equestria dreamscape Luna had just been visited by the Lord of Shadows in her private chambers of the palace in Canterlot http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6557470 . After her initial shock she heard out the Lord's supposed request to have her assist him in arranging negotiations between his realm and Equestria.
Luna was immediately suspicious of the Lord's intentions but played along with him while trying to decide what her next move was. In the end she told the Lord of Shadows that she needed to consider his words, and that in future any further communications had to go through proper protocol. Step one involved the Lord of Shadows sending "official" emissaries or ambassadors to request an audience. Well the Lord apparently complied although with Luna's request but he did not choose the channels that Luna envisioned to make his petition.
The next day all six of bearers of the Elements of Harmony were unexpectedly visited almost simultaneously by the Shadow Stallions who came bearing messages requesting an audience with Celestia and her sister.
Their physical appearance was very much like their Lord. Thick oily clouds of smoke that took on the form of stallions with glowing eyes and no lips. Despite the spells cast by Celestia and Twilight they still were able find crevices and nooks in Ponyville where enough shadow existed for them to materialize.
Almost as disturbing as their appearance was their voices. When they spoke its was as if a chorus of tormented souls were speaking from some distant, vast cavern. This was particularly hard for Applejack because after she demanded the release of Applebloom the stallion in front of her said. "The pony you call Applebloom is whole and is with us, and will stay with us until ' our' Lord decides to release her." When he made that declaration his voice instantly switched to that of a screaming, injuried Applebloom. That was almost enough to make poor AJ run away from the horror in front of her, but she stood her ground and listened to the message she was to convey to Celestia.
While not as traumatic for the other fillies it still was a startling experience for them. Pinkie had one materialize in the kitchen of Sugarcube Corner while she was baking. Twilight awoke in bed to find one looming over her. Rarity was soaking in the tub at the Spa when she was visited. Fluttershy stepped out the front door of her cottage find a stallion waiting, and Rainbow Dash was several thousand feet above Ponyville when a sooty black cloud formed with a stallion standing on it.
The message to each of them was the same. "Our Lord seeks an audience with your rulers Princess Celestia and Princess Luna. Our Lord desires a prompt reply to his request so appropriate arrangements can be made. Of course your Princesses can decide to decline our Lord's request, but if they refuse then any "further" incidents occur they may have unfortunate consequences for their "dear" subjects who will suffer the displeasure of our Lord. Therefore our Lord advises them to not act rash and consider the well being of all their "precious" ponies." We will contact them in ten days to hear their answer. Then they vanished.

You know one thing I always like about these? Your cross-hatching. Gotta love good cross-hatching. Though I'm jealous of your dreamscapes. Makes me wish I had that degree of control over my dreaming. I usually can't even remember mine at all unless I write them down the moment I wake up, if I can even remember them when I wake up.
I think I liked it better when the Lord of Shadows was this alien abomination that did what it did because that's simply what it does. Now it's shown that not only is it dark and evil, but it's also just plain mean. Applejack is going to need some serious therapy after all this.
On the flip side, it will be all the more satisfying when the Lord of Shadows is finally defeated. It's one thing to put down an evil menace, but it's another thing entirely to put an arrogant jerk in their place.

Yeah he and his minions seem to be taking great relish in twisting the knife in poor AJ's side. They may have not realized Applebloom's importance when they first took her but they definitely know now that they have bargaining chip now. Applejack is really fortunate that she has a strong family and solid friends to back her up. Also the fact the Celestia has stated that she'll do what she can within reason to get Applebloom back is also helpful.

I'm surprised AJ didn't go for its throat when it did this to her. And given how much pride the Lord of Shadows is displaying, I am getting very eager to see just what kind of a fall ensues.

At the moment AJ is very conflicted. That may have been deliberate on the Lord of Shadows part. On one hand she wants a piece of the Lord of Shadows flank to hang on her wall, but she is dreadfully afraid of what might happen to Applebloom. And sound her tortured voice was harsh reminder of what might happen to her. Unfortunately little Applebloom is a pawn in this game and one side might consider her disposable. It is unknown.
Okay, so how do they get a message back to LoS? Did these "apparitions" tell them that?
He's still got a lot to learn about protocol. Probably has no idea how to deal with others as equals. (Particularly that crack about "our Lord," which almost sounds like he's implying he's lord over more than his realm.)

yes the sisters were rather infuriated by that important little detail to. Do we just say it out loud and hope someone lurking in the shadows hears it? Do we draw some symbol on the floor and you guys will appear? What? Leave some large unmarked bills on a park bench? Give us some details here.

You're probably right that he doesn't really see the sisters as true sovereigns because in the novel Kingdom of Shadows the King of the Ponies is nothing more than a puppet that the Lord of Shadows put in place to be his lackey in the world of casters. Those who cast shadows.

The situation has resolved and you're just taking the necessary time to report it to us, but I could see a "tit for tat" being employed. Paynes Gray is banned from the Realm of Shadows, but as a "creature of the realm" could he be snatched out of his limbo and "held" in Equestria as a counter-hostage?
I fear that LoS isn't going to respect the ponies or princesses until they prove they can hurt him (although not necessarily physically). And then the unknown variable is if he'll respect them and deal with them as powers in their own right or act like a wounded animal, lashing out in fear and anger. If the latter, the only solution is to finish him, even at the expense of the hostages because he'll never submit to reason and discussion.

While thinking about the possibility of sending a Harmony-based Laser into the Shadow Realm (if the Lord can get out, then ponies should be able to get in) I suddenly remembered the original summoning. The Lord of Shadows may not even be there; he could just be hanging out in Equestria somewhere. Where's an orbital Friendship Cannon when you need one?
