I'm a big fan of the Temeraire series by Naomi Novik so I made my own breed of dragon ^.^ Here's his specs, now I just need someone to draw it before I start writing a story.

American Switch-Back
Size: The Switch-Back varies in size from the smallest at about 8 tons and the largest at about 12 tons. This lets the Switch-Back straddle the approximate sizes between the large, light weight and small, middle weight classes.
Coloring and body conformation: The Switch-Back has a very wild look to it. Its coloring is a mesh of browns and dark greens that are able to blend in with most forest backgrounds. On its head are a number of rear facing, sharp horns. Along its back is a line of large ridges originating from its spine and going all the way down to the tip of its tail.
Territory: The Switch-Back lives mostly in the temperate forests of central North America and as far north as Canada.
Organization: The Switch-Back is a rarely seen, and much feared, dragon. They prefer to live alone and are almost impossible to harness.
Special abilities: The Switch-Back has two main special abilities that make it extremely dangerous. The first, and lesser, is its chameleon-like ability to change the color of its scales. This is not an immediate change, but the Switch-Back can blend into almost background short of pure white. This ability makes the Switch-Back a very dangerous ambusher. This dragon is also venomous. It is this quality that truly makes the dragon feared, even by other dragons. The Switch-Back’s venomous bite is a powerful toxin that paralyzes the lungs of its victim and is capable of killing even a heavy weight, combat class dragon with a single bite in only a few minutes.
Temperament and Intelligence: The Switch-Back is intelligent and cunning. While not quite the level of a Celestial, the Switch-Back is far more intelligent than any feral dragon and quite a few harnessed ones. They are also quite vicious, unwilling to surrender to any challenge. Unlike many dragons, the Switch-Back will take on a rider after hatching, even if it does not do so at the time of its hatching. This is rare though, since few Switch-Backs ever do take up a rider, due to their particular pickiness. They will only take on a crew of the most intelligent, courageous, and skilled aviators that can be found and will disown any crewmembers that prove to be cowards. To make things even more difficult, the Switch-Back will only take on a crew made up entirely of the opposite sex to itself. Why this is important, no one knows, but it is completely impossible to get a member of the same sex on them.

Hrmph.
I must find a female Switchback, then.
I daresay I'd be able to ride that beast into battle, for like true Royalty, I lead by example from the front lines of the war, charging into combat without fear and never surrendering.
"Give me victory, or give me death." That is the battlecry of a fearless warrior.

And as for cunning and intellect, I daresay that if Temeraire or another Celestial, could beat it with ease, then it has no chance against one such as I.
That's why the two Celestials, Temeraire and Lien, are now two of my top generals.
The American Switchback would be second in line to them.

My dear Snikch, you are vastly underestimating me AND my abilities!
You do so at your own peril.
You see, I too am an "American native", as both Human and Dragon forms arose from the area now known as Texas.
In fact, dear friend, my true form, that of an immense Feral Dragon whose scales are a brilliant Imperial Purple with a gold underbelly, arrived when the Earth was little more than a glob of hot primordial goo floating in space!
i say arrived, because that is exactly what happened.
i arrived through a dimensional gate, which i can also use to rescue other Dragons whether individually, or in groups as large as Britain's entire Aerial Corps.

Well, I've got rework the Switchback a bit. Started listening to the Temeraire series again and its continues to add ideas in my head. That's my problem I never work on any single project long enough to fully finish it before another ideas shoots into my brain.
