Do you see it now? The true word of God.
This is a place where things happen again and again,
And we are men compelled by sways of which we have not ken...
What the city demands, it must be given!
And he so ever who does not love the Lord,
Let him be anathema! Maranatha!
Curse his name and let him burn!

I used a couple of new techniques with this painting, including the construction of the background using a four point perspective. I wanted to go deeper into the character by depicting his psyche as well as many other symbols included.
Thanks a lot for looking! <3
>>>Thanks a lot for the comments already, I now know that it looks similar to the marker from Dead Space! XD
This is a total coincidence as I went for the design of the Maranatha building and some image references of the Chicago Spire. ^^

wow, 5 vanishing points used very effectively o-o
on top of that the consistently themed grunge is very appealing, your replication of the spire is uncanny, and the character in focus has a very well done appearance.
though you don't need me to tell you this was marvelously crafted.

Oh, the collaboration was about that one part
foxamoore did the music and I created a painting along with it. :)
I did the painting all myself. ^^

This is just absolutely mindblowing. It's not often a picture makes me come back to it multiple times because I feel I've missed something or I see something else to interpret.
And oh man. 4 perspective points. those always blow my mind but good on ya for being able to make it look so cool :D

No clue what Heathen City is, and no you needn't explain it to make me see the sheer awesomeness of this drawing. The spiraling tower does remind me of The Marker, much like many others. If someone had built a building to look like The Marker from Dead Space and used it as an apartment complex, this is what that building brings to mind for me.
Also I wouldn't live there XD Anything resembling the Marker is like, a bad omen. Just like whistling the Gremlins theme song when you're making toast or anything involving electronics.

I'm not a gamer, so at least I won't be saying it looks like that thing everyone says it looks like.
Is this meant to be a cover, promo art, an interior page, or what? Just curious.
I was at a small con yesterday talking to the folks at Rabbit Valley, and they said volume 4 of this book will not be out until 2013 (!) If that's true, I really hope the story wraps up in that volume, or else we'll all be retirement age by the time it finally finishes.

You've done an excellent job with this, holy shit that building. And honestly, just the general detail and composition of the piece is stunning, you made a good decision going with the four-point perspective, it gives the work that needed umpf.
It's just a bit sad that the actual graphic novels couldn't be as symbolic or plot/story oriented; you've basically out-done the characterization by the volume while it was busy working in multiple unnecessary sex scenes and sub-plots.

"What do you think each character in this piece is representing?"
I think horse character, whose name I do not know yet I am sure he has one, represents some form of control or power. The way he is posing himself is in a way that expresses a form of, well, I'm not sure of the proper word. He doesn't seem to be showing off, but it's more of putting someone back in their place by displaying his might, in the way that is accompanied by vicious rolling thunder should this piece have some sort of soundtrack.
"What is the overall theme of this piece?"
I'm going to have to refer back to the last answer; power or control. I know nothing about the setting this art belongs to, but it screams "This is what I can do; this is my might. Before it, you are nothing." Very powerful and humbling, not to mention intimidating. It comes across in a way that makes the viewer feels as inadequate or challenged to match him in their own action or dramatic pose.
"What do you think is happening just off screen?"
I would have to say, judging by how desolate the buildings around the horse is, some sort of destruction is going on in the general vicinity. If there is someone in front of the horse, I am sure they're currently stunned by what is happening around them. The expression on the horse's face shows some sort of determination, so this is not likely to be some sort of tension releasing yoga position he is standing in; he must have a purpose to what he is doing. Again, I'm going with intimidation of some sort.
Haha yes the hooves are stretched due to the extreme angle. That is something I also experienced when working with my extreme wide angle lens. It distorts objects that are close to the edge. I tried to fix the problem but every tweak ruined the perspective. XD
Thanks a lot. ^^
Thanks a lot. ^^
I need to seriously re-evaluate my skills after seeing this.
I am like a 5 year old compared to your skill.
This image... the masterpiece... all the visuals and strokes and paint applied... its mind bogging and amazing.
I can only say... "Wow, you are amazing"
Awesome art here, I can't wait for more :3

You can find a art lecture online from Berkley where the professor insists that "art is not technique." I understand what he's saying to a degree, but in the back of my head, this is what I really think all representational artists are striving for. Like someone mentioned above, you have a ridiculous amount of vanishing points, wide angle shots, and just so, so much beautiful, perfect coloring.
God. This makes me want to draw and never stop until I can make this on my own.
