Anthro Clothing Design sketch
This is a fairly quick and rough sketch depicting a couple ideas I have kicking around in my head for how clothing could accommodate wings and tails. It came out pretty sloppy to the point where I'm not quite as pleased with it as I'd like to be, so it sort of acts as a good example of why I don't usually force myself to do art when I'm not fully in the mood.
But that aside, hopefully it's still intelligible enough to get the ideas across. What I picture for a t-shirt is that, unlike a normal human shirt, the back is a separate piece of fabric that leaves openings for the wings. And since the wearer has to get it on in the first place somehow, this back panel isn't attached to the sides of the shirt at the bottom, instead flapping loose until secured to the sides by velcro strips. I figure this same basic principle could work just as well on a jacket, perhaps with snaps or some other closure besides velcro.
For the pants, again they're mostly similar to the human variety, but with an additional sleeve to accommodate the tail. This tail sleeve is completely open across the top, again sporting some velcro strips that can be fastened once the legs are in. The front of the pants can still sports a fly like on the human variety to make fitting and and visiting the little dragons' room a little easier, although with the opening over the tail in back the front fly may not always be fully necessary. There's wiggle room for style.
I don't think either of these ideas are anything totally new and Earth-shaking, but the actual logistics of how you'd get clothing on over wings and tails aren't something I see explicitly addressed very often so I thought I'd toss this out there.

Not a bad thought! In my case, I -think- if I was just a bit careful and tilted my head back to lay my horns against my neck I'd be able to get the shirt on and off just fine, but for dragons with bigger horns a larger neck opening might be better. Or a shirt that buttons up the front, or comes all the way open in back somehow. Anthros are diverse, so you'd have to have more than just one design probably!
Thanks, really glad you think so! :) I think I've seen pants like that too, and certainly just a single fastening without the tail sleeve would work too. It'd depend on one's anatomy a little, but without at least a little bit of a sleeve I might feel like that could get kind of close to one's rear end not having much coverage. ;)
Hehe! Seems like it could be comfy. ^^ Yeah, I don't think it'd be too hard to sew either design, which was part of the consideration. For a basic t-shirt and jeans or cargo pants sorta combo... they're supposed to be easy, lazy, casual clothing that isn't hard to get on or off, and isn't crazy intense or expensive to make. And yeah, if you wanna use these designs or something inspired by 'em for yourself you are more than welcome!
Yeah, that would get a little more difficult! :) I suppose my first thought with something like that would be to go with a sorta halter neck style. There would be a bit of fabric going around the back of the neck and another going around the waist, but apart from that it could cover the front while leaving the back almost entirely open to show off those fins or spines or whatever. On humans, halter tops of course tend to be a feminine look, but I'm sure there would be ways to design it so it'd be a little more gender neutral if one wanted. ^^
Very cool! I'm glad to see some thought put into the sort of clothing anthros would wear. Here and there you see a bit of that in the fandom, but not in any great detail, and more often than not, you see shirts and pants and stuff on creatures where you wonder how the heck they ever managed to get them on. Good stuff. ^_^
Yeah, that was my thinking. :) I've sometimes seem some really clever ideas, but a lot of the time a shirt or something is just 'poofed' onto a character and there are wings coming out the back somehow though you can't figure how they possibly got it on. Admittedly I've probably been guilty of that myself a few times, but I wanted to put some actual thought into it! 'Cause clothing can be fun, and is therefore worth doing properly. Very glad you like!
Yeah, I think there's as much innovation and interest in the clothing as there is in the character creation. Even when I do stories, I try to take time to explain something unique in the way of clothing, furniture or other accommodations that take into account the varied needs of such beings. Hehe "poofed" on - nice.
Even if clothing or furniture or other design isn't a main focus of the drawing or story, it still seems like it can add a lot of depth and richness to the work if you show that you've thought about it. :) Really putting some effort into considering what would work best in the setting and for those characters, not just being lazy and throwing in whatever takes the least effort.
Thanks, glad ya like. :) It's certainly an idea, I might do more designs like this at some point. :) As you say, ideas for coats or female clothes could be fun to explore too! I'll have to see what I feel like doing, but there are lots of fun ideas out there!
