Well, here is the lightning background that I mentioned in my comments of http://www.furaffinity.net/view/638521/ . While not as realistic as that cloud background, I like it well enough. I could have added more details (like highlighting the clouds better) but I wanted it get that full http://www.furaffinity.net/view/563220/ drawing done since it took to long.
Btw, speaking of clouds, we had 40 days of on and off rain the 4 days of nice weather (although hot). Well, it's raining now as I type this. But it just about stop again. When it does rain here, it usually last only a few minutes at a time.
Back to the lightinng. I did it in several layers (like I mostly do my stuff). Adding more and more effects as I go. Sometimes I end up with dozens of layers by the time I finished with an artwork (If I even finish it). Which reminds me, I need to get my butt in gear and get back to the grind. So, what you guys think of my little bit of lightning?

Towards more realistic lightning:
Lightning only really highlights the cloud at the point where it exits the cloud.
Lightning's also a bit more severe in it's jagginess. Like someone severely caffinated was trying to draw a line.
Here's some great refrence:
