Rodants straddle the line between cute and ugly. Some fall on the ugly side - naked mole rats, moles, sewer rats, and many others fall on the cut side - hamsters, chinchillas, voles, lemmings, gerbils, and some straddle the line, like capyberras or guinea pigs (such weird lips). Of course, nearly any animal can be cute if loved, but I'd say that in this case, this rat's not cute.
It's got large ears, short, tough fur, a long, oddly shaped snout with an asymetrical coloring and wiskers that don't go straight out. Worse of all, the eyes are squinting, small, and spaced high in the head. Even objectively, it's not cute.
