Yay! Upload from me after some years! Here's a new character of mine, inspired by my studies ^^
Name: Barr dal Segno.
Nickname: Barr or Barry.
Sex: male (yes, male ^^ see description).
Species: calico cat, loosely based on a Turkish Van.
Meaning of name: Barr or Barry's name comes from the Barr-bodies found only in female body cells: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barr_body. Barr-bodies create a mosaic of inactive X-chromosomes all over the body. Since only the x-chromosomes determine fur color in cats, female cats can have multiple colors, read calico, and males can not since they only have one X-chromosome. BUT: when a male cat has 2 or more x-chromosomes, he can be a calico just like a female cat. This condition is called the Klinefelter syndrome, and it occures in humans as well. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Klinef.....r%27s_syndrome. In Barr's case, he's got long arms and legs, narrow shoulders, is taller than a average human and has breast development (I exaggerated it a bit ^^) and wide hips. So he looks a bit like a female, whilst being male.
Dal Segno is Italian, and is a common music term. It means 'the sign'.
Anthro/feral/taur: anthro.
Appearance: He's taller than the average human. 2 meters or so.
1: markings on his head are random. But the default one can be used aswell (found a pretty calico cat picture on Google lol). As long as the colors stay the same (black, brown and sandy brown).
2: Left eye is blue, right eye is yellow. Yup, he's deaf aswell.
3: It's the Dal Segno sign ('the sign' sign XD): http://www.google.nl/imgres?q=dal+s.....x=53&ty=37. It outer ends are on his 'breast' and belly, the rest is on his back.
4: He always wears a self-made wooden cross.
5: His nails are short and soft pink.
6: Tail is not shown for pratical reasons ^^
7: His tail has random markings aswell, as long as the colors stay the same (brown, black and sandy brown).
8: Fail on my part: those 'toes' need to be on the inside as shown here, not on the outside ^^ Bad Ekujo, bad!
9: Toenails are grey.
10: Pawpads are soft pink with black splotches.
Clothing: like a nun or a monk, religious clothing.
Description: Barr is a deaf calico male cat suffering from Klinefelter's disease. Well, not suffering from the disease itself, but the social and emotional consequences. He was once happily married to a beautiful lady cat, until the villagers decided to hunt the 'devil' down. They had to flee, but Barr's mate was accidently killed by an arrow that was meant for Barr. Barr wasn't aware of the fatal incident, since he couldn't hear his wife scream in agony. He ran and ran, until he noticed the villagers had give up chase. Then he ran back and found his wife bleeding to death, with in her arms newborn twins (yes, Barr is one of the rare fertile Klinefelter males). The stress and pain caused the lady to go in labour spontaniously. Barr never knew his wife was pregnant, and would never know the joy of hearing such news. As a last wish, his wife made clear through sign language: 'Don't let them get the same fate as you, take them somewhere safe, somewhere they are being judged on their ability to laugh, to learn, to love. Take them somewhere where the world is blind, and the sky sees.' She then died in his arms.
Barr took them to a monastery.
Now the real description, writing stories isn't my forte it seems lol. Anyway, Barr is an introvert, wary person, who rarely smiles. Not weird if you ask me. But around his children, he's the softest, kindheartest (is that a word? xD) person there is. He teaches other deaf children in the monastery reading and writing, and makes wooden figures in his sparetime. He spends his evenings sitting on the monastery's roof, gazing at the stars, desperately waiting for a sign of his wife (hence his name ^^). Sometimes, when the moon is bright, he can hear her voice, softly blowing on the wind. But he's deaf, he must be imagining...or is he?
