Of course, with the natural coloration of the rock strata in the American Southwest, the coloration could be natural camouflage at among it's most simple and yet beautiful. :D Still think Shay's the cutest. ;)

Painted mice from the Painted Desert! Makes perfect sense, biologically. Just as snow leopards are black and grey to hide on snowy slopes.
