This is about halfway up the gigantic memorial dedicated to Russia's victory in World War II. The giant brick path leading up to the memorial is about 200 feet across and 3/4ths of a mile long, leading up to a giant column that's about twice as large as the Washington monument. It's fucking huge.
What you see on the bottom of the photo is a marble block with a year on it. Every few hundred feet, there would be one of these markers, starting with 1941 (when WWII started), and ending at 1945 (end of the war).
At the foot of the column is a depiction of King George slaying a dragon (a symbol of fascist Germany).
Also, it was very cold that day.
