Nah. I know pixel art. And, come from a VERY rough pixel art community. xD This is the kind of simplistic art they strive for. As far as 8 bit goes, it's a fantastic portrait.
I didn't even know where to begin mine. Your color usage, and shapes are nearly perfect. I'm not saying I couldn't do it, but you definitely did great.
