WOW, I'm REALLY surprised this one isn't in this gallery. My "Monster Rancher 4" fanarts are the first uploads to my FA gallery...and, by the looks of it, I only uploaded the pics that had "sexy" content in them.
This, for those who haven't been here since the beginning, is Jaka, an ambitious (and, going off the other pics of her, sexually adventurous) Folkes who was the main character of an MR4 fanfic called "Monster World" I was working on. At her side here is her partner, Hubo, a "diskborn" Baku she was training for professional arena fights.
See, the premise of "Monster World" is that something...happened to all the humans on the planet. While they disappeared, all currently active monsters were granted the twin "gifts" of full sentience and gender, leading to a weird dual species situation: gendered "naturals" who are born of mommies and daddies, and asexual "diskborn" who were released from Saucer Stones in the standard MR fashion who were...y'know, this whole deal made LOADS more sense back when I was on medication. It all was meant to explain why the two ruling castes of the world, the ghostlike Jokers and the robotic Hengers, were slowly dying out since they could only cross-breed with diskborn of other species; combining two dead purebreed versions would result in only one new living one, total case of diminishing returns. The plot had to do with a third faction, the Chaos breed, losing the Book of the Phoenix, basically the monster breeder catalog from the game itself, and Jaka getting a hold of it, sparking a war between the two purebreed armies to find her and secure the Book, since whoever had it could finally replenish their race indefinitely. Further complicating matters was the first creature Jaka accidentally released from the Book: a human.
For the record, the reins aren't intended to imply ownership, even though Jaka does occasionally ride on Hubo's back; Hubo, like most Baku, is narcoleptic AND a sleepwalker, so Jaka uses them to keep him from walking off cliffs or into people/walls/small helpless animals.
Also for the record, she isn't having sex with him...asexual diskborn, remember? She probably would if she could, though...girl's pretty open-minded, judging by her other pics.

Is it weird I totally dig your MR backstory? I've been trying to find a way to justify one of my old attempts at a MR story involving "anthro" versions of the characters, but could never think of anything to my satisfaction.
In case you're curious, a pic of my crappy attempt at a story can be found here (with blatant rifs to the anime, but would use more elements/species from the games, particularly 2 and 4): http://www.furaffinity.net/view/5141492/

It's more flattering than weird, but that's just my opinion, LOL...I never actually figured out WHY all the humans vanished/merged with the monsters, but I imagine it was just gonna be something I came up with as the story went. I don't know how familiar with MR4 you are, but the "bad guys" were the three "Chaos God" monsters (which is part of the reason my main character was a Ripper...the other reason is I love Rippers) who were enslaving and combining the Antlan Rangers, agents of the missing Phoenix, to make armies of Dark Antlans. So, yeah, I pulled a bit from the anime too by having the Phoenix be missing...I think I was gonna have its disappearance have something to do with the fate of the humans and the mass empowering of the monsters (a-DUH!) and, knowing my ever-so-original ideas, the human Jaka freed woulf probably turn into the Phoenix or something trite like that.
One of the original K-Girl artists, Senzankou, was also into the "Monster World" setting, but since he was only familiar with MR2 and I only knew (at the time) MR4 and the anime, I think we were going to pull a Pokemon and have the different continents of the world represent the different games. I was also undecided as to how anthro the monsters would be since some were more blatant about genders and bipedalism than others. There's a pic near the very beginning of my gallery of my attempt at making "sexy female" versions of a Garu, a Mocchi, and an Antlan, but they're kinda freaky looking, plus the whole deal with the Pixies and whether they actually wore clothing or not gave me headaches. I do totally agree with your pic, tho'...anthro Suezos ARE stupid (the first one these two encounter in-story tries to extort money for a "toll bridge" and ends up having Hubo poop on him...ah, good times, good times...).

Well I have both MR2 and MR4 (as well as the first GBA game and Evo, though I never finished Evo) so I think I'm fairly knowledgeable of the game setting (and would love to do something RP or artwise with that setting, but they're way too few fans out there to play with :(). Did a fair number of pics set on them too, mostly using monsters I've bred myself, but never scanned them for whatever reason. Also toyed with doing anthro versions of the Chaos monsters as well but, again, never scanned these.
I DID for a brief time use the anthro Mocchi girl you see in my pic for RP purposes, though. In that game, I came up with the excuse that she was supposed to be a Mocchi/Pixie mix that went Horribly Wrong and ended up that way.
Sorry for the rambling, by the way.

PLEASE, no apologies...I friggin' LOVE MR4, and the anime has always been a secret love of mine, too (including the obligatory Pixie crush...I am SO fucking cliche' sometimes...), especially once Fox Family got a hold of the second half of the season and actually played the episodes IN ORDER so the damn thing made SENSE (Bohbot never did, which was weird since so many of their toons were ongoing serials...the same tendencies also killed "Roughnecks" and "Mummies Alive!").
I only knew the MR4 setting since I thought it was superior to the other games since you could have actual teams and do things other than train and fight...then EVO comes along and pretty much throws out the "training and fighting" part (it's Monster RANCHER, where's the damn RANCH?) and killed the franchise in the US. Le sigh. I never RPed anything, though, but that sounds as valid an origin for an anthro Mocchi as anything I came up with.
Personally, I'd love to see more MR fanart, but after finding a huge box full of my old sketchbooks, I can understand if you don't wanna scan them...it's like "These are good, but they're my OLD stuff dammit!"

FRIGGIN' BOHBOT! Thanks for reminding me of my loathing for that company (Great shows! Out of ORDER! JOY!)
Well half of the reason I don't scan these is because, well....I need a working scanner again. Also, I have *loads* of MR-themed stuff, not just the things I mentioned (I would make fanmade combinations of monsters that, at the time, didn't have a canon 'look', or even a fanmade monster, complete with aaaaaall the mixbreeds that THAT would turn into! Those are a bit harder to find, though, as they're on loose leaf that have been, well, lost).

OUCH...I feel your pain there, my long-dying scanner finally broke in January and I only got a replacement last month as a late birthday present from my parents (although it wasn't like I was drawing much in the interim anyway...=>.>=). I could throw a little commission money your way to help (enabling you to scan more MR fanart? Worthy cause, sez aye), but I'm afraid it'd probably just be a drop in the bucket.
Yeah, I have more respect for MR2 now than I did, if only because it had SO MANY monsters (which the "raise one at a time" kinda defeated the purpose of, though...). I loved the idea that there were two creatures for every combination, since that would go along with my "gendered monsters" idea for Monster World so well, even if it would end up another cribbing from Pokemon, what with the gender of one parent likely determining the body and the gender of the other determining the features (although it would be amusing if weird if it was totally arbitrary, then seemingly different breeds would end up as blood siblings, LOL). I tend to try to stick as close to canon as possible, though, although when Sen and I were working on it he came up with some non-canon crossbreeds of MR4 monsters, too. Wish I still had them, but they were lost a few system crashes back.
Minor question, how did you handle the "Special" unlocked creatures in your stuff? Aside from the Chaos Gods and the Antlan Rangers, I think the only one I was actually going to use was the Tanklon2 (in memory of one of my best in-game monsters...you will be missed, Clanker *sniff*) since most were weird in-joke stuff.

The thought's appreciated, but right now I'm using my commission money for a far bigger goal. I'll have a talk with dad this weekend to let him know what's up, which is something I need to let him know anyway.
MR2 was my first game in the series and it still my favorite as far as monsters go (Arrowheads, Worms, Centaurs, old-school Beaclon, friggin' Zilla which I sadly never got...), though MR4 definitely comes close second thanks to critters like Ripper and Antlan (who first debuted in the GBA game, to be fair, but that's a minor detail).
Specials? You know, that's a good question. I don't think I ever got that far into trying to justify them.

Nah, MR4 had the Datonaires (I drew an anthro one here http://www.furaffinity.net/view/25211/ ), but those were Tigers with Zuum features so it might not be the same thing.
