The Sandstream girls Shrina, Sara, and Rivera team up for some mechanized chaos in one of their favorite video games. However its not long before the girls take a short break to discuss options as the online competition grows increasingly stale.
I blame this for planting the seed in my head. While I did contemplate a similar idea, I opted for a predominately Gundam themed video game similar in fashion to this that references elements from other titles like Armored Core & MechWarrior. But yeah, theres actually a pretty decent game similiar to what you described. Its called Gundam Breaker, is actually a series that started on...Ps3, I think and the most recent game came out on the PS4. You can import the Hong Kong Version, that one has english text and a pretty decent translation.
Gameplay is more hack and slash than tactical mech gameplay, but its good gameplay and hey...its Gunpla builders: the Game. Lets you make your own Kitbash and then beat the pulp outta others peoples plastic battle robots!
