Commish: DesmondRush Snake´s Halloween Costume Flat Color (
Flat very flat colors, this is what I use to color, I lit the gamma a bit because the colors I use for flats tend to be very dark, afterwards I drop a layer with a blueish gray color on top of it and I use the flats to select with magic wand what I want to paint, no anti alias no feather no tolerance, that´s the trick.
I decided Snake in a type of factory enemy base just the regular things Snake does on a daily basis and a snowy mountain at the back.
This is a work in progress colors might end up looking quite different when I´m done.

colors vary mostly due to how reflective is the fabric of what the light is hitting, for example regular cloth like cotton, hair or fur are not very reflective, even a black trench coat made of leather is not so reflective, but other materials like plastic, metal, shinny coatings and wet things are going to reflect lights a lot more depending the position of the object, other things that reflect light in a human face or furry face can be forehead, nose ridge, the tip of the nose may be very shinny due to grease and sweat, under the nose and the chin, also cheek bones mostly because those areas tend to stick out more than others, but coloring something means that if you know more or less how real things work out you can bend rules and exaggerate a certain things to stress the importance of something in this case Snake must be the most colorful thing in the piece compared to background and whatever is behind him. Let´s say that what I do is like handling the lights in a movie, even if it´s a night shot we need lights to see the actors :)
