Interesting story: I was going to either buy Star Fox 3DS or Solatorobo at the GameStop last October but then the store manager said that the copy of Solatorobo he had was the last in stock and that there were dozens of Star Fox 3DS games around. So guess which one I chose?
What kind of idiot do you take me for? I picked up Solatorobo- it's not a perfect game by any stretch. The battle system is based entirely on pressing "A", the puzzles are ridiculously easy, the story is somewhat cliche and the universe the game is set in is begging to be expanded upon even if the game won't be enough of a financial success to justify a sequel. But I haven't been so engrossed in the scenery of a video game since "Ocarina of Time"- the lush visuals look more like a Hayao Miyazaki film than your average Japanese RPG. And some of the places you explore are so unique- like a floating continent which is actually a giant beehive, a sea full of fish that is actually above the clouds, a Detroit-like slum made out of abandoned starships, or even an airship with its own garden and pagoda.
I realized later that a game like this will become like "Earthbound" or "Eternal Darkness"- the brilliant and original game nobody played amongst a sea of look-alike games.
