Halloween commission by

Oh Megan, you silly girl. You almost made it. You outlived your crew-mates, for what good that did you, you defeated the deranged android and you got the shuttle set for launch. But then what did you do? You went back for the cat, didn't you? It was a kind thought, but you really should have known better. All you can do now is hope it will be quick, and that whatever this creature is it will get its claws into some of the executives who doomed you to this fate.
Tch, xenomorphs. Can't even bring a girl flowers.
As anyone who's known me for more than a month will know, I've always been a huge fan of Alien, even though I'm a coward and it always makes me hide under the bed for a week after watching it! But I have no illusions that if I were placed in similar circumstances I'd manage to do anything but get slurped. Then again, the original plan was to have Ripley get eaten, too, which would have made things that much creepier.
I think it's safe enough to leave this with a General rating. It's just a bit of drool.

Alien of course goes to 20th Century Fox, and whoever else has a claim to it. Yay for proper citation. My history professors would skin me.
The alien creature was originally designed by H.R. Giger, who still deserves credit even if you can't see it.

Aw. I meant to note you a link to it, too, but someone's forgetful at times. If I didn't know to look for it, I probably would have missed half your comic from FA playing up, too. Silly thing.
I love her expression, too.
cerberusderozier really captured the moment of dawning horror perfectly and it really adds so much to the creepiness of the picture. As for the creature, it's there all right. Say what you like, but they're incredibly good at sneaking around and popping up behind you. Or above you. But I've always preferred the creature from the first movie because you don't see it that well, or that often, until the very end. A hidden enemy is always more terrifying.
*Grins* Maybe it does just want a hug at that. I can't remember if you've seen this movie, but there is one scene where the creature pops out of hiding at one of the crew with its arms spread wide and that's exactly the joke I can't help but make every time. It's also perhaps the only time in the film where it's pretty clear that the creature is a man in a costume.

Yeah, I make sure to check your account regularly as well, and Loganberry's too. But I can certain continue to send you links every time I post something if you'd like. I just don't want you to feel like I'm nagging at you for comments or anything like that.
That's the scene I was thinking of, yes. Poor Dallas. I've always been rather fond of him, and I think he's probably the most sympathetic member of the crew, in a way. Everyone else can bicker and argue to their heart's content, but he's got to try to keep some order about the place. I definitely agree that it would be good if more films could show the subtlety that Alien did. As for the chest burster scene, that is hard to watch even with as many times as I've seen it. Even when you know how they did it, it's still quite an effectively icky scene indeed.

I'm not sure how clear the movie makes it, if you're not a rabid fan like me who knows every little detail, but I do think that the main reason Dallas goes is because of his position as captain. Ripley does volunteer to go, and in the novelization that's made even clearer, but Dallas insists. Which, I agree, is quite admirable. Oh yes, and the deleted sequence does makes his fate a lot worse than if he'd simply been killed. I won't go into detail, since I know you're not exactly a fan of this stuff, but you can get versions of the film with that scene added back in, and you can find it on YouTube if you really want.
*Snuggles tight* Aw, well I don't mean to make you feel like that! But I'll keep you safe from any nasty aliens!

You know, for as much of a fan as I am of the film I've never seen the graphic novel, or any bits of it except what you've linked me to in the past. I remember your sharing the link to the chest burster scene before. I'm sure it would be worth quite a bit to the right buyer now, too! It's interesting that they make Parker's death even more graphic than it was in the film, too.
I used to have the novelisations of the first three movies, all by Allan Dean Foster. The first two are quite hard to get hold of now, and I don't even remember what happened to the copies I used to have. But, while I'm not sure how much of those books would be canon, they did do a lot to sort of flesh things out both with the crew of the Nostromo and the alien itself. Including some of the romantic tension that was originally supposed to exist between Ripley and Dallas. Foster's kind of a hack, but they were fun to read all the same.
