When I first thought of drawing this, it was going to be private, but I've since changed my mind.
Let me explain.
About a year and a half or so ago, shortly after my 24th birthday, I was blessed with one of the best presents I could ever have gotten. A little stray kitten whom I named Joshua and me and my girlfriend Caroline helped to nurse back to health. He was my little one and I doted on him to no end.
Perhaps a month or so later, he passed away suddenly. The experience is still very deep and hard for me to go through.
Afterwards, Caroline got us two more cats, Patch and Mr. Mistofolees. Two little scamps who quickly won me over, despite my claims at not being ready to love another animal again.
Well, yesterday, Mistofolees, or Mist for short, passed away due to kidney complications.
Caroline has been the one to deal with this alone (we are since separated) and I feel horrible that I haven't been present to help her deal with it. Mist was as much my little one as hers, and I loved that little guy like he was a son to me.
Mist was curious and friendly to his loved ones, hated vaccum cleaners and loved his brothers, Patch, Tom and Sandy. His ashes will be spread in a location near where Joshua is buried and this does my heart some good to know that they'll be together, even though they never knew one another in life.
I miss him greatly and I wish that this didn't have to happen. But this is life, life continues, and all we can do is remember the good times.
Caroline and I agree, however, that whatever afterlife awaits Mist, he will have company, and that his big brother Joshua will be there to greet him warmly.
Please, if you wish to make a gesture to show your condolences, we ask that you make a small donation to your local petco. or animal shelter. Mist was brought to us through these means and we would appreciate your support as friends.
Thank you for listening.
