The 42nd annual Oktoberfest car control clinic was a really good chance to get to know your car better, at the hand of 4-5 different instructors. My favorite was a 60 year old gentleman that swatted my wrists ever ytime I crossed my arms while turning the steering wheel. ;)
After sensei was pleased with my progress on the panic braking, slalom, and mini autocross course, we turned the dynamic stability controls off and TORE it up on a smooth, perfectly sealed skid pad made ice-slick with water. Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, Z4s are good at spinnin'! ;D

Different chapters have different events. Once you pony up for membership in the car club, you are automatically enrolled in a local chapter. I suppose you can request to be added to the Tarheel Chapter http://www.tarheelbmwcca.org/
The other chapter in South Carolina doesn't look as active, but I know that several of the Tennessee chapters are pretty active. And yes the Peachtree Chapter (Georgia/Atlanta area) does get to go to Road Atlanta sometimes. :)

Yes, I have a 2006 Z4 3.0si. Tons of fun.
Depending on the local car clubs in your area, they may have similar car control clinics available during different times of the year (they are most common spring through fall, for obvious reasons). This particular one was a variation on the teachings presented by these folks here: http://www.streetsurvival.org/ -- although since we are adult drivers with a bit more, ah... advanced discipline and driving skill (ie, looking to do competitive driving), they skipped the whole texting/cell phone angle of it, and allowed us to be more experimental with our vehicles. Good times. :)
If you are interested autocross events and competitive racing, there are a list of local BMW CCA chapters that service most of the US and other countries -- here's a map of the US chapters http://www.bmwcca.org/chapterfinder
The Oktoberfest event happens once a year. Generally the CCA only requires that you purchase a membership, they will allow non-BMWs to participate/compete. :) It moves around from year to year, and I was very lucky that this year's event took place Barber Motorsports Park, which is 1.) nearby to me, and 2.) BEAUTIFUL. Rumor is that the next Oktoberfest will be either in Virginia, Ohio, or at Laguna Seca CA.
