Oh they have their racial conflicts. Hal Jordon once tried to get another GL canned because while he was ordered alongside him to help out he saw the guy taking what he felt were bribes and tributes, and never considered that the alien's culture might actually have it as a cultural imperative to give gifts to anyone who did them a good turn. He was tossed into a deathmatch in a pocket dimension with the alien as a trial, although the alien learned the value of doing things without thought of reward, and Jordon learned not to judge based on earthly conceptions of right and wrong. It's more likely that they get along mostly because of the honor and prestige as well as the selection process ensures that everyone's capable of at least working together as a team even if they despise the other's culture or beliefs. For those that can't they probably just keep them separated, which can't be that hard when you've an entire universe to spread them around in.
I think I remember seeing that, barely. DC also had a limited series with a geek in the 'normal' reality who worked at a comic shop, never got any respect, and got a GL ring by mistake for an issue. Just long enough to defeat a villain before a Guardian showed up to reclaim the ring, but he did get a nod from the alien for doing a good deed while he had it.
*chuckles and nods* Although I have to wonder at their intelligence creating an entire corp of competing villains like that. Given their only motivation is to kill all Green Lanterns they have a significant advantage over the GLs, since they have to defend against the YLs plus do their duties of preserving life and fighting evil.
I've never really pictured Sinestro having a diabolical laugh, he's always looked a bit too effeminate to pull it off. Then again given his obsession over killing Green Lanterns, Hal Jordon in particular, I think what he really needs is to get laid and spend some time relaxing instead of being so uptight all the time.
Reminds me a bit of a villain in the Dominic Deegan webcomic who started off as a representive of Order but he was of the oppressive Order type, whose obsession was actually creating so much chaos he switched sides and became an avatar of Chaos instead. Seems to describe Sinestro, who was oppressively pushing order as a Green Lantern until he was kicked out and became an obsessive worshipper of Chaos instead.
