Awesome, I've been to the Indy 500 twice, it really is quite an experience, even if you aren't much of a motorsports fan, and it's definitely more exciting then NASCAR lol. I just wish they still had the F1 Grand Prix there, I never got to go to that before they stopped running it there.
also, OTTAH =]

2007 was the last United States GP. Since then, the Canadian GP has been the closest.
F1 will be returning to American next year, though. At a new track in Austin, Texas. Australian V8 Supercars will be joining them in 2013, and German DTM cars will also be stopping there in the near future.
So, there's some good stuff on the horizon.

no one likes Nascar :( I hate the sanctioning body and their rules passionately, but I love the drivers (most of them), teams, guys in the shop, etc. It's still motorsports.
But, I agree, and disagree. It would be awesome to see F1 at places like Leguna Seca or Watkins Glen, but the drawback would be, they would have to renovate to tracks so drastically to meet FIA standards, that the racing for other series would be terrible.
Super long run-offs, completely re-paved surface, rumble strips, rumble strips everywhere, new walls, new pit road/garage, etc. F1 tracks are built for F1 cars, and F1 cars are built for F1 tracks.
V8 Supercars and DTM are really the only series that can still produce interesting racing on F1-built tracks, thus why those series have an interest in the Austin, Texas track.

The only problem is F1 really doesn't care about the fans. That much was made clear whenn
they ran a 6 car race at Indy in '05 because the Michelin teams brought the wrong tires. They also don't care about American drivers, or even drivers who have raced in America period. As good as Sebastien Bourdais was, F1 only gave him mediocre equipment. Same with Michael Andretti.

Yup, a very faithful rendition of an early 90's Penske Indycar.
