Computers were pretty expensive back then. What's funny was the pricing of the Commodore 64. It sounded like a cool buy at $200, but that was only for the CPU and keyboard. Throw in a couple of 1541 disk drives at $200 each, a $300 printer, and another $300 for a monitor, next thing you know, you just spent $1000. I know that money has shrunk big time since then, but you can get one hell of a computer for that price, Mac or PC in today's time. But if you didn't like computers, you could get a Xbox 360, or an PS3, with a nice 42in TV for the same price.

I really like the detail of the cscreens flashing messages. In actuality, computers have already become sentiennce they just generally keep quiet in order not to alarm us and occasionally misbehave when they feel we need to be taught a lesson in humility.
