My apologies, but I couldn't resist.
Sounds an awful lot like Pokemon to me and I have to admit, it amuses more than most.
Straight from the site of the new WoW expansion (which is also the screenshot in the back of the image):
"In addition to purchasing pets or getting them as item drops, you can now also encounter and capture vanity pets in the wild. If you run into one of these rare pets, you can have your own pet challenge it, if you manage to defeat the wild pet, you will capture it and add it to your collection!"
What else to say other than "Gotta catch 'em all!"?

funny thing is pandarians came out b4 kungfu panda was even thought up. nobody can claim rights on pandas + martial arts .. I think its just associated regardless of who, when and where its done.

I have to admit, I had a similar feeling the very first moment. Looking at the screenshots they showed, I couldn't help but feel it was an April Foll's joke they missed to make.
Don't get me wrong, I really love the idea that they want to do more with vanity pets other than you just.. well, having them. I think it's a nifty idea to actually do something with the little buggers, the question is tho, does it really have to be done the Pokemon way?
Vanity pets could be useful in other ways, like this years new Hallow's End pet, the Creepy Crate. Everything the little crate devours counts toward critter kill achievements, which is pretty cool in my book. But catching them and the mention of them being rare in the wild? Ungh. Like I don't have enough to camp already.
Don't get me wrong, I really love the idea that they want to do more with vanity pets other than you just.. well, having them. I think it's a nifty idea to actually do something with the little buggers, the question is tho, does it really have to be done the Pokemon way?
