Mmmn... I'm so satisfied with this piece that I'm not sure I ever want to let it slip out of my hands... even though I made it for my lovely
urikohusky. =3
I tried out a new coloring style on this one and, while some components of the art are very much the same as I've been doing, I must say that I see at least some improvement. (As always, the real piece looks FAR better than this scan.) It took me several hours spread over several days to come up with something that I could be satisfied with, but I can't say I regret the effort in the least.
PLEASE do not copy, alter, or redistribute! This piece of art is extremely personal and important to me. If everything goes according to plan, this will be the first of three installments of pieces revolving around my mate and me which incorporate our fursonas.
Uriko (Husky) and Tobias (the tiger in the portrait) belong to my beloved mate,

Nice! May I be next? (pantpantpant)
Scans can often be improved to an astonishing extent by putting the image into Photoshop, putting a Levels adjustment layer over it, and playing with the 12 adjustment sliders, then saving the adjusted jpg.
I've found that there is a huge amount of hidden information in scans that can be brought out. I'll bet that nearly all of that currently invisible shading can be restored.
Would you like me to give it a try? I'd enjoy seeing more of what you put into it. It is like a hunt for buried treasure, except that you find treasure everywhere that you dig! I really enjoy doing it.
There is a lot of hidden info in this jpg, but there is even more potential in a big rescan. If your scanner can produce png type files, they have the most info. If not, jpgs have a lot more data than can usually be seen. In either case, have your scanner produce both the biggest pixel size and the biggest file size possible (so long as it is under 10 megabytes), and email it to me at foxystallion@yahoo.com. I'll extract the invisible shading and lots more and then - and only then - reduce it to the same pixel and file sizes as this image. I'll put it into my scraps gallery, and you can download it using a "save as" to remove the file number and my name, and then you can repost it. I promise you that it won't be flat any more, and that you will be astounded by the difference! And I'll get a much better image for my slide show!!

Oh, trust me... the little white shading that you see here is a result of about 15 minutes worth of tinkering with levels and color variations. Of course, that's not to say that you don't know some nifty little trick that I don't, so you're more than welcome to give improving the scan a shot... but only if you'll teach me how! :D Who knows? Maybe I'll be able to improve the quality of MANY of my submissions, both here and on DA, if only I know how to better adjust my scanning process.
I'll shoot you an e-mail with the original scan in just a few minutes, after I play around with it and see how much file quality I can get my lovely scanner to produce for me.
Oh, and as a side note... -shoos away- My puppy-love! No touchies!

Great! I'll give it a try and if I can do better, I'd be delighted to tell all.
One thing that is helpful is to start with the largest scan possible, both in pixel size and file size, with PNG being best. This is so that one starts out with as much information as possible. Photoshop's adjustments and most of the filters cannot create information, only change the emphasis on what is there.
What version of Photoshop do you have?

I have an extremely craptastic, antiquated version of Photoshop Elements 2.0, the most frustrating, restrictive program that Adobe has ever published... besides Elements 1.0, of course. I would LOVE to have something like CS2 or even Corel Painter, but that'll be a LONG time coming for this poor college kid!
If this works, I'll be happy to do the same thing to your entire gallery (over a period of a few weeks) - just scan everything on the same scanner with the same settings at the same time, and it will probably only take me a few minutes each after I've got the first one fixed.
Please let me know when you have emailed me the big scan. Do NOT try to do anything to the scan file before sending it to me.
You could probably get a used copy of Photoshop 7 on ebay for a little less than $100. 7 is the last version for Windows that does NOT require "activation" and permission for resale by Adobe. The CS version that I have doesn't have much that 7 doesn't have. It cost me $86, with all the original disks and documentation. I have a Mac, and CS doesn't require "activation" and Adobe's resale permission on Macs, unlike on Windows.

Please let me know if you would like his/er 5 o'clock shadow darker. It will only take me a few minutes. Be sure to tell me whether it should be a little, moderately, or quite a lot darker. I don't know how obvious you want it.

As it's not meant to be a "5 o'clock shadow" at all, please do not do any darkening. It's simply supposed to be the natural shading that'd occur under the lighting. I... er... I'd actually rather that it not be considered a masculine trait at all in respect for the character's owner. Transgenderness is a very delicate subject and I'd really rather nobody take the time to stomp on my mate's toes if I can help it. Do hope you'll understand.

Here is another version with even more of the high spacial frequency information restored, giving the King of Queen's 5 o'clock shadow more visibility and his/er coat a bit more masculine roughness. I don't know what your original art looks like, so please accept my apologies if I've gone too far.

There isn't supposed to be even the slightest hint of masculinity about the character at all. She is, in every way, shape, form and fashion, 100% female and is to be treated that way. I would really appreciate it if you'd change your descriptions of the images to reflect that.
I'm already removing the transgender tag from my post so that there's no further questioning about my mate. I'd really rather spare her any pain that might be caused as a result of too many prying minds. (Do forgive me, but I'm extremely protective of the ones I love. To even mention things such as masculinity and 5 o'clock shadows in her regard would be something that I consider to be extremely hurtful to her, no matter how innocent.)
