This is just a quickie to get away from the stress of exams and portfolio reviews.
Deo is wielding an oxy-acetylene torch on some steel I guess. I miss working with metal, it's one of the things that sucks about college. That and I miss cars. A lot.
Welp, back to writing up my lab report for O-Chem.

Oh man MIG is so smooth and easy. I love it. TIG can be a bitch, but you can do such lovely stuff with it. And with Stick you can weld underwater, but the clean up of the slag is annoying. And yes, there is something so very right about fire and metal coming together.
Ha ha, yeah, cutting away at a random giant slab of steel. I dunno, I started a background-ish thing and realized that I needed to get back to actual work and study stuff instead of dicking aroun. I should have added some color around the flame for the whole sparks and melting hot metal but that'll have to be done later.

For the most part I wear a cotton long sleeve welder's jacket. You don't want to generally wear a tank top when you weld, not just sparks but if you're arc welding the UV light will burn your skin like a nasty sun burn. As for shorts, I'ver never seen anyone weld in shorts. Though I did see one stupid man roll his pant legs and the sparks were caught in the rolled up part and caught his pants on fire, a mistake of which he should have known better.
I'm studying technical theatre, and our scene shop works similar to a commercial scenic construction house, so I get all the stories. When you and 20 of your closest friends are welding for 8hr a day inside in the upstate NY summer, you're a bit inclined to weld in shorts and sometimes no shirt. Yes, terribly stupid. Still, it happens.
Yeah I don't blame them. I once found a bag of zip ties...then three minutes later I managed to tie my hands and feet together.
Anyway the pic looks really great. I know style means little to real artists but I love the simplicity in this. you balance the details really well.

I just had some sort of fit of laughter. However did you manage to get both your hands AND feet...?
And thanks. I really struggle with anything that's isn't "DERPDERPCARTOONS WITH NO JOINTS" or observed realism. So I've been playing in different styles and I like this one but I'll probably move on to define something more for myself that's a bit more realistic. And I need to get over my shaky hands and stop abusing the pen line drawing tool ha ha.

it's great for simple stuff, but yeah finding your own thing and stuff. I really need to work on that more. I've been a bit annoyed with my style lately. I'll probably take a break and just play with styles a bit, see if I can make some scary pics.
As for the hands and feet. I started by tying two finger together, then some toes, then a finger to toes...and then it all just got away from me.

The cutting torch was one of the first shop tools I learned to used. It was shortly followed by the stick welder, and then everything else. I saw mention of a mig welder, and yeah those were easy to use, but I always had a fondness for the stick welder. Something about it, and the way you ship of the slag to reveal how good, or bad, your weld was really made it worthwhile for me.
