Walkcycle and Fur Shading Proof of Concept 2009-2010
This is an even older piece of a random template-character, who will serve as a basis for Zorryn :) Again, the walkcycle is a bit crappy, but was mostly done to see if the fur is working in motion. Also, all the rigging improvements learned here went into the development of Vivon's rig.
I don't like the way, the tail is clad in fur, I will definitely improve that in the next iteration.
And he surely has floppy ears <3

Another impressive piece. I will agree that the animation doesn't looks as natural as Vivon's, but I am still quite impressed with it and it still looks fluid and convincing. This in my personal, completely uneducated opinion of course.
It is nice to see a different character, however, and I can't wait to see where you end up with all this. Everything you have submitted thus far has been fantastic, and I am always anxious to see what you have done when I see the notification in my inbox. Cheers mate, for all the good work.

Looks fantastic! Motion is very natural and fluid. Personal thing, but love the look of his footpaws too - nice to see a plantigrade type foot in that detail (hopefully there's more to see of them for us paw-lovers in the future). One suggestion I would offer would be to firm up the ears a bit. If you look at a dog with similar ears, they're actually more rigid than what you've rendered, and resist flexing a bit more with walking motion.

I just had to log in to fave this and ask some things.
I'm starting out on 3D, partly with lessons, and partly studying at home by myself, so some hints would be nice, but... I'm fine with just these two:
Did you rig the ears too, or is there some sort of extra setting for "soft material"?
Did you try other fur settings/other programs to render the fur besides C4D's internal engine?
Finally, the tail seems most likely rigged AND animatted too... or is it just something rigged hanging from the body, using some sort of physics system?
Thank you for any info - I'd prefer a reply on a note, but anything is great.

Heya!
The ears are rigged with bone-chains for manual and dynamic animation.
I found the C4D fur engine to be the quickest most versatile when I started to do furred characters some years ago. The Look I like renders in ~4min a frame.
The tail in this animation is not handanimated, it's auto-dynamics all the was.
