Kinda makes you think, you know. Where does this extra mass come from in a transformation? I mean mass can't magically appear, so it has to come from some place scientifically. Maybe some way energy is being changed into matter that that is where the mass comes from.

Possible, but it would take tones of energy. Einsteins famous theory of Relativity shows that. One pound of matter converted to energy (or vice versa in this case) is the mass times the speed of light squared. One pound is enough energy to run a simple air conditioner for half a million years.

I'm thinking it's more like the matter is being absorbed around him bit by bit. Molecules from the air and ground his standing one, not enough to be noticeable, but enough that, when accumulated, could add their mass to him for the change.

But whatever the reason I'm loving this series. ^_^

The digi creatures were described once as basically spirits from the spirit realm. So, technically, what we're seeing here is the boy's inner guil monster spirit magcially made flesh.
