Balaclava, our studio pioneered the method back in like '98, and really pursued it as a method for making soft and durable costume heads. Have continued to use and refine the method more n more :)
Plastic mesh is good in certain applications, but we've found it to be a bit ridgid in design, and somewhat prone to crushing and deformation over time.
