Eww... 1000+ entries? Yeah, kinda some rough voting in this latest contest.
These are the designs I've submitted for the second Friendship is Magic contest at welovefine.com. If you kept track, I did in fact get a runner up spot with the "Dumb Fabric" shirt last time (which has been a top seller for a while). Thanks to everyone that voted! But I guess I need your help again. It's hard to stand out in a sea of 1000 designs, but hopefully people will at least stop for 1 second and not automatically hit 1 while they're on a hot streak.
Want to help me out again? Here are links that go to the shirts themselves, just make sure to let the page fully load, or it may not work correctly:
https://www.welovefine.com/vote.php.....id_submit=1745 (Angel Bunny)
https://www.welovefine.com/vote.php.....id_submit=1663 (Rarity)
https://www.welovefine.com/vote.php.....id_submit=1441 (Twilight)
Thanks for all your support! And I sure do hope those links work!

I don't understand how any part of selling fan pony shirts is legal to anyone, for anyone.
You're certainly not allowed to take (or draw) a picture of pikachu and slap it on an LOL IRONIC shirt. Nintendo would have your ass in lawsuits in minutes.
So explain to me how it's at all legal to sell these, on any site, at all.

Mighty Fine has an agreement with Hasbro. They hold contests in which the winning submissions are sent to Hasbro for licensing approval, which then makes them official pony shirts. Which means my "Dumb Fabric" design from the last contest is one of the only officially licensed fan designs sold anywhere.
Prize money was essentially the compensation, which was a tiny little detail they changed when they upped the prize amounts and made everyone reupload their stuff (initially it was "we'll buy you're design if you win"). They really didn't make their terms/conditions page very easy to find, but thankfully they at least didn't completely ignore my request and actually added a "I have read the terms and conditions" checkbox and a link to them when you submit anything this time around. Naturally it's all lawyer speak that's hard to read, but at least it's there.
So you're saying this ends up being officially licensed merchandise endorsed by hasbro
and the original artist gets shafted? Huh
well THAT'S both incredibly weird, and shitty for the artist. I assumed this was more along the lines of threadless and sites like that where the artist gets a cut of the profits from the shirt, and was pretty pissed off that MOST of the shirts are little more than screenshot ponies with words photoshopped above or below them.
That really how this works? The crap they're selling on 'welovefine' that's pretty permanently a side banner on equestria daily. That site with 8 pages of lame pony shirts is all official merchandise?

Well at least one of the artists got 1000 dollars. for their work. The rest of us got $50. Yeah, it's a raw deal, but I only blame them for 80% of the shafted part; they probably had no idea the shirts would sell as well as they did. That's probably why they upped the prize money to triple this time around.
Wouldn't it make more sense to claim parody and sell on threadless or some similar site? I believe you get a cut of the profit, and your 'dumb fabric' design at least pokes fun at the character.
Ugh
See, a while back i looked into making pokemon stuff. bookmarks, t-shirts, whatever. Becuase that's mostly what i draw, and i thought it'd be fun. But the idea was shot dead in the water because you can't just HAVE A CHARACTER on a shirt and be like
"Yo guys by this pikachu shirt i drew it" becuase it violates nintendo's copyright and is not protected under parody laws.
EVEN THOUGH you can go online and find TONS of pokemon apparel, most of them aren't sold under nintendo in any way shape or form. I know people personally who go to cons all the time and make like 100 pokemon pins, from pictures they doodled and copied and shoved into pins, and sell out of them. Pisses me off truthfully, because, while people DO IT, it's still illegal :\ and i'd hate to be the guy nintendo gets butthurt about and dragged to court, you know?
But at the same time, there are parody shirts people make all the time, and they're completely legal. I've just never really bothered because of how shot down i felt about the pokemon merch i wanted to make.
HAVING SAID ALL THAT, ponyshirts are cool guys. Some of them. Some really do just look like a chopped out screencap of rarity standing there in that 'i'm just standing here' pose they all do, and says like RARITY above it, with some shitty stars, and people are buying that.
and if that's the case, that the artists really are getting fucked like that, then why does ED support the site? Seems like a shitty way to repay your community :\
Regardless, i'd say look into another site. It's cool theyr'e extending the license to individuals who win contests (or buying the rights to the work from them, to be part OF the license), but in the end it still seems like a stupid thing for the artists to get involved with :\
So why are YOU doing it?

Ok, so, 1: Nintendo are kind of pricks when it comes to copyright, see: Pokemon tower defense. Hasbro (thus far, at least...) has been pretty cooperative with the brony community, I feel mostly due to the fact that it's My Little Pony, never one of their biggest selling brands. Whatever they where making off of it before, their profits are probably about a zillion-faffilion times what they figured it would be from their original projections when the show came out. That being the case, they're probably pretty willing to share a little bit of license to keep us all happy. 2: I'm kinda on your side on the EQD thing. They are a pretty good spot to find things, but they seem pretty selective as to what actually gets reported. I mean, they reported APPLE.MOV and DRESS.MOV, but not SHED.MOV? I mean, how are you gonna run Fallout: Equestria and Silent Ponyville, but then get all squimesh over that? 3: To agree with Ajin, sometimes, the best reward is just going: "F*** YES! THAT'S MY DESIGN YOU'RE WEARING!!!" Also, I agree with the whole screencapped-ponies-with-their-names-above-them thing being really dumb, but that's why we gotta support Ajin's original designs, right?
Wow. This competition just got 20% cooler.

I'm hoping the fans will want their Loonah, no matter what. :)
You're designs for this contest, like the ones you did for last one, are really nice (which is why the contest is now 20% cooler ;) ). I'm not disparaging my own work, but with your entries and others by heavy-hitting pony fanartists like IchyMango, the bar for this contest has been set pretty high.

No, you haven't seen too much text. This is one of the shirts I own:

THAT is too much text. But I still like it anyway. It's not always bad if people stop to ask to read your shirt. Unless you don't like them staring at your chest.

To bad you can't get a % based contract oh well at least its something for a resume someday (don't ask me how to apply that) I have a slight fear your killing your self on this one, your dividing votes against yourself. If your like me and don't really care for angle or rarity but do like twilight (referring to my like of characters not the shirts) that's only one vote (don't worry I'll hit all of them) My favorite is still "dumb fabric" ordering two sorry you don't get a monetary kick back.
