1985 by Hippotaur
2 minutes 2 seconds
Inspired by actual news events from one day in 1985.
Performed on acoustic guitar, clave, aquarium side filter, Yamaha DX-100 synthesizer, effects boxes, my voice, and Tascam Porta-1 4-track tape recorder. Best listened to with headphones.
The Mourning Sunset by Hippotaur
4 minutes 26 seconds
The words to the fist song I ever wrote came when I arrived home early one morning after my first Grateful Dead concert; the effects of psylocibin still coursing through my brain. In those years of Ronald Reagan's "cowboy diplomacy" fear of an actual nuclear war weighed heavily upon my mind.
Performed on Yamaha DX-100 synthesizer, clave, soprano recorder, alto recorder, tenor recorder, effects boxes, my voice, and multi-track tape recorder. Lead synthesizer, bass and drums performed by studio musician Al C. Tortured screams by J.T. Best listened to with headphones.
lyrics
distorted patriotic words
Inspired by those who lived before us
Saddened now that none will follow
What have we set on ourselves?
What is to follow?
The panic and the rage have passed
These moments too dear to waste them
The woman on the corner with the parasol wants her children
As the mourning dove sings his last song
Our dread fills the final hours
Wondering what is beyond
The wheels are in motion
Grinding down to destruction
I think of the past that was
Since all that has happened
The happiness and fun that we shared...ahh...
It seems to be all worth thinking of...
So we sit and watch the sunset
Nowhere to run or hide
Let your mind drift with your thoughts
'Till that is all you have

lyrics
1985
I saw the news tonight
Killer out of sight
People live in fright
Ninteen-Eighty-Five
Ninteen-Eighty-Five
Ninteen-Eighty-Five
Ninteen-Eighty-Five
Jets burn in the night
It fell from such a height
Black freedom crushed by might
Who is really right?
Ninteen-Eighty-Five
Ninteen-Eighty-Five
Ninteen-Eighty-Five
Ninteen-Eighty-Five
Afghani rebels fight
Killer bees will bite
Country full of blight
Starving peoples' plight
Ninteen-Eighty-Five
Ninteen-Eighty-Five
Ninteen-Eighty-Five
How are we still alive?
The end is just in sight
Caused by atomic light

As the cycles turn
Life is born anew.
It springs up with a lesson
Learned from the past.
Life is for living
