A tasty treat for Halloween. I rather like caramel apples because they're one of the few treats that's good and bad for you at the same time... mostly bad. Especially the way I made these babies.
What You'll Need:
-A double boiler (If you don't have a double boiler, it's really easy to make one. All you need is a boiling pan and a metal bowl slightly bigger then the pan)
-A bag of apples, either 6 large or 12 small (Preferably Granny Smith apples)
-A bag of caramel bits (You can find them at Wal-Mart in the cake aisle, especially around this time of year)
-A bag of white chocolate morsels
-Candy sprinkles of your choosing
-Popsicle sticks or craft sticks of some kind
-A tablespoon
-A baking sheet with wax paper covering it
-water
Steps:
-wash and dry the apples real good then stick popsicle sticks through the top of the apples. Place on baking sheet and set aside.
- fill half of the pan with water and heat to a rapid boil. After boiling, set to medium heat and place the metal bowl on top. Add caramel bits and 2 tablespoons water. (The double boiler trick will keep the caramel from burning) Melting process will take some time, continue to stir until caramel has completely melted. Should be rich and creamy.
- take apple by the stick and dip into caramel. (If your bowl isn't deep enough to submerge most of the apple, then dip in sideways and twirl until caramel covers the apple) Take out of caramel letting excess drip off while twirling the apple as to give it an even coat. Hold apple upside down to let caramel slowly slide to the top of the apple, then place back on cooking sheet. Repeat the process with all the other apples.
- once finished, place the cooking sheet with apples into the fridge and let set for about 5 to 10 minutes.
- in the mean time, begin the melting process with the white chocolate morsels exactly the same way, only this time add 3 tablespoons of water instead of 2.
- When completely melted, take out the apples and dip them in the chocolate the same way as the caramel. If any chocolate is left over, drizzle whats left over the apples with a spoon. Finally add candy sprinkles and then refrigerate for another 10 minutes, or until chocolate has completely solidified.

I love caramel apples, but I hate trying to eat an apple off a stick. I much prefer dipping apple slices! ^^ Great recipe, though, I didn't know they were so easy to make!
Speaking of caramel apples, do they make those awesome suckers still? I lost one of my baby molars on one in art class in 7th grade. Sweet.
