Stings

The lines overbearing, fumbled and spat
My biggest fear of all is all of that
So I sit amongst my self-pity alone
By now that's one of my skills, finely honed
While she parades around flawless, smooth as silk
Like the most majestic flower, never to wilt
Around my peers my confidence swells
But she's more than a peer, and I know it well
In her presence my thick spit merely slows down my tongue
That, my awkwardness and shyness are among
The reasons I fear my attempt will be for naught
And that's what really is getting my stomach in knots
No, that's not true, Even if she turns me down. God forbid
That wouldn't sting as much as all the words, I maintain unsaid.
