After a few months of collaborations, this month's addition to my music gallery is a return to my "solo" material. It's also the most recently recorded of the songs I've posted. Of course, it's still 11 years old lol, but it's the most recent! :D It's also my 25th musical submission to FA (including the 4 holiday-related songs in my "scraps" section).
"Under Your Spell" grew out of a tune I came up with in the summer of 1995. I've attempted to come up with a "final" version of it 2 or 3 times, and I still haven't done a version that I'm completely happy with... but until I get back into recording again, this version (recorded in March of 1996) will do. My keyboard only had so many pre-programmed beats that I liked, so this uses the same beat as my previously-uploaded song "Alone", but at a faster tempo.
Lyrically, the song is about falling for someone who you know you shouldn't be falling for. Maybe you know they're totally the wrong person for you, maybe they're the type of person you'd normally never go for... and yet, why can't you get them out of your mind? You can try to resist, you can try to employ logic... but when it comes to love (or lust), more often than not resistance is futile and logic is irrelevant.
Fun fact: This is my third song to contain the word "resistance" in the lyrics... but only the first to contain the word "masochist". :P
As usual, please excuse the crudeness of the yada yada yada.
"Under Your Spell" (6:19)
Written 1995, this version recorded March 1996
Someone tell me how it's come to this
I find myself in total disarray
I've thrown away my pride and prejudice
I never thought I'd ever feel this way
But now you've got me under your spell
Now you've got me under your spell
Now you've got me under your spell
Now you've got me under your spell
There's no way to stop what has begun
There is no chance of staying in control
Thanks to you my world has come undone
Lord above have mercy on my soul
'Cause now you've got me under your spell
Now you've got me under your spell
Now you've got me under your spell
Now you've got me under your spell
And it all comes down to those little things
That you never know you do
And it all comes down to those precious things
That shackle me in agony for you
There's no point in trying to resist
When my resistance has been stripped away
I must be some kind of masochist
To let myself be tortured this way
And now you've got me under your spell
Now you've got me under your spell
Now you've got me under your spell
Now you've got me under your spell
Now you've got me under your spell
Now you've got me under your spell

Hey bro, I just scored a secondary drum kit for the house. It's a 4 pc open back Slingerland with a psychadelic aquamarine coating. I'm finally going to be able to have my studio completely set up in the basement. Thsi way, I can just have you all come up on weekends and lay down tracks. I'm working on a scsi drive to expand my recording unit. I'll be ebaying one next week. >"^_^"<
BTW, GREAT SONG! >"^_^"< *huggles you off your paws*

You can find the lyrics right here, that might help you follow the vocals.

I always give full warning that most of my music is lo-fi. I think I've done pretty well for what I had to record with at the time (namely, a Walkman-sized tape recorder). Of course it's not going to stand up against what people are producing now, with the advancements in home recording technology that've taken place. Having said that, no one else seems to have had any trouble hearing the vocals. *shrugs*

I can't believe *this* asshat was my 200th comment. Awesome. There's *constructive* criticism, and then there's just criticism. Am I just wasting my time putting up dislcaimers to tell people ahead of time about the conditions under which this stuff was recorded? It's all live, fed into one microphone out of the air. We're not talking about 8-track, we're not talking about 4-track. This was a 1-track recording, and there was no way to "tweak the levels" after it was done.
Not to mention that the criticism is bullshit in the first place. The vocals are clearly audible to anyone who doesn't have a hearing problem. I'm sorry... I don't like people seeing this side of me, but you know what? When I don't like someone's submission, I keep my goddamn mouth shut unless what I have to say is of some value.

This is one of those moments when you wish you could delete comments from your FA page. In this case, the comment I would like to take back is my own.
Despite his above comments (and my less-than-mature reaction to them), TakeWalker has had some of the kindest things to say over at my other FA page [http://www.furaffinity.net/user/dramaarmada/]. It's reminded me that nobody's one-dimensional, and that I shouldn't be so quick to judge.
And to be careful of what you say, because FA doesn't let you take it back lol.

Aw, dude. D: You gon' make me cry.
I came back here after hearing
huntercoyote's cover of this tune. Which was awesome, by the way. Sure, this is pretty darn quiet, but it's still a good song, and I'd like to think I've matured, just enough since I left that comment that I've really begun appreciating what the song writers around here can do, regardless of the quality of their equipment. (FFS, I'd be hard pressed to do any better.)
So, what I think I'm trying to say is, I agree. :3 You do a lot around the FA scene, and I appreciate that. I've got your gallery bookmarked, Imma delve through it later on (after I get done with the million other galleries I've bookmarked lately X.x).
Peez 'n luv, brah. :D

Well, my reaction to your comment was childish. You didn't say anything outrightly negative about the song, and I acted like you did.
It took a lot-- more than I've really let on-- for me to start posting my music on FA, back when the lo-fi stuff was all I had to offer. I was afraid that my songs were going to get torn apart mercilessly by people on the basis of their less-than-stellar sound quality. Much to my surprise, that didn't happen... but I never quite stopped expecting it to. I was sure that at some point in time, people were going to start trashing my stuff. And I knew that if they did, it would be difficult for me to defend myself, because I knew that by most people's standards, the sound quality was inferior. I also knew that I'd accomplished a lot for what I had to work with, but getting other people to understand that can be tough.
I guess when those first couple of comments came in from you, it struck a chord of fear in me, because I felt like "OK, here we go, the honeymoon's over, here's where the tide changes." Again, I was wrong... people on FA have continued to be exceptionally open-minded and supportive. But I'd be lying if I said that there wasn't still a little part of me that worries that that will change someday, as my recording standards continue to lag behind the times.
At any rate, I'm really glad that things are cool between us. I don't need to have 10,000 friends on FA, but I don't want any enemies. :)

Again, I agree. :D And to be honest, I'm rather impressed you had this song around to upload in the first place. Music, writing, drawings: it seems that anything past a certain age is either lost, discarded, or hidden away due to personal distastes. So yeah. :3 Cheers to you, man.
