He looks like he could have come from an odd animation from the late 60's - early 70's. Something about the design also reminds me of a dragon character in a comic series I got a couple of years ago called Dungeon.

That was kinda the idea, in this case. I have mostly tried to be realistic so far (much as flat colors and furry art can be), but then find myself stressing about anatomical details I frankly dont know the first thing about, going a more comical direction leaves me free to not worry so much (and as a result, actually bother with some shadows and stuff)
