I find that, in order to get warmed up for portfolio and degree project, I often have to practice drawing and painting... so I worked on this in bits and pieces over about two weeks.
It went... okay. lol
My Little Pony belongs to Hasbro, and as an illustrator who hopes to enter the art industry, I tip my hat to Lauren Faust.

I did a sort of half-this and half-that look on it. She did in fact have other options, but didn't know at the time that Luna was possessed and only sealed her because she physically couldn't kill her. She then learned from Twilight Sparkle and the others that there were other options and is simply too proud to admit it. In other words, it wasn't Avarice and Gluttony, but Wrath and Pride.
This makes me sad for some reason. Maybe because it feels like perhaps these familiar ponies are shown as a relic of the past, and the suggestion is that they may well be quite gone given the ruin-feel of the scenery.
The look of recognition is somewhat heartwarming though.
I am kinda neutral on the pony craze, but this is one of the more attractive and endearing pieces out there... and there is some damn good pony art out there. My hat is tipped for Faust as well, but stays off for you, fellow artist.

Well, looks like I was right.

[repost but sue me]
Holy wow that's some FINE artwork. Then again that goes without saying, whatever the subject you turn to, you treat it with equal regard to the process and making it something fine. Much <3
The idea of some future character finding old or ancient reference to the ones that are otherwise contemporary is always kinda moving, whatever the story.
And Yay even the symmetry in the characters on the mural is sweet! :3

Thanks Fangsy! I'm most interested in far-past or far-future for a lot of things. It's the real romantic notions of it that get me, for instance seeing the ruins of Ancient Rome as opposed to somehow witnessing it as it was. Though I wish I could know what it was like EXACTLY, the ruins are more tantalizing.
I also find myself okay with this.
The picture evokes a haunting feel, implying that the Mane Six are long dead and gone, with some explorer hundreds of years later stumbling across the ruin and finding a curious mural, left to wonder about the strange figures, ignorant of the stories we all know and love.
Very nicely done!

This... is amazing.
Listen to the "Temple of Time" theme from Zelda. It really fits.

My first feeling was it reminded me of the chronicles of narnia, when the kids return as young adults to find their old castles in ruins - not sure exactly its be years since I saw that. It's nice has a warm feeling to it, I do agree that it has a bit of sorrow in a feeling that the main six may no longer be present. I'd say more but feel I would only be echoing sarsis's comment above- what is it 'imitation is the highest form of flattery' well great work, I look forward to seeing more.
Someone popped it over here and it is getting the wide recogniton a grand piece like this deserves.

Wow. This is just magnificent! I love the expression and every bit of detail. The coloring makes this picture glow with a heartfelt warmth.
(I can really see this happening in the world of my fanfic sometime after the coming epilogue... which may mean nothing to anybrony else, but makes it even more awesome to me.)

Very neat concept overall and I felt the tiling and depictions of the six came out nicely in portraying an archaic art piece. The way you depicted them looks pretty bad-ass in general (I thought the swirl of the top unicorn’s tail was a nice touch too btw) and I like how it seems to convey some sort of story and/or connection the six have as well. The lighting is beautiful in how it seeps down into the room from above and I felt you did a nice job on the hair and tail coloring of the live pony.
Great work on this.
Great work on this.
It's already been mentioned, but I really wanted to say it myself. This piece is powerful on many different levels, from the obvious artistic skill to the profound emotional potential/intent. Personally, I find this image both saddening and inspiring at the same time. We have an image of a possible future in which a new pony has discovered the long lost murals of some very special friends achieving great things together. The concept that these friends have possibly even passed on by this point is at first depressing, but also reminds the viewer that their example is something that transcends beyond just their own lives and can be a part of their own. Legacy is pretty much the best word to describe what I mean, like a parent who sees in their child a way to be remembered and to carry on their message about how to live life and enjoy your time while sharing it with others. Ask me why a bitter 30 year old man can enjoy MLP, and I can direct them to this picture as a solid reason, it brings out the better in those who take its messages to heart. Thanks for the inspiring work friend.
