Actually, Wile E. Coyote has caught the Road Runner twice:
1. In "Soup or Sonic" (1980), Wile E. caught the Road Runner... but, having been shrunk by a funnel pipe, was too small to do anything about it. (His signs to the audience: "All right, wise guys, you always wanted me to catch him" "Now what do I do?")
2. In a Cartoon Network ad for their Acme Hour segment, Wile E. fires up his rocket skates and actually catches that bird! As he cooks his meal over an open fire, we pan back to see that these are generic rocket skates, rather than Acme Brand. The tagline: "The other brand isn't the same thing."
