That which does not kill us makes us stronger. Or just maims us. Back to my Equestria dreamscape. In my last posting http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6740272 I proposed my idea for how to deal with the Lord of Shadows. However several of the characters present were understandably doubtful and wanted test whether my grand scheme could even be pulled off.
For this reason a secondary ballroom in the palace of Canterlot was pressed into service to act us a testing area, and closed under the pretense of extended renovation. Once closed to casual observers the two princesses along with Twilight placed as many spells and wards on the room as possible to prevent prying eyes, both physical and magical, from seeing what was going on inside.
For the next four days my entire existence was inside that room. In fact I slept in there since the general consensus was that if the Lord of Shadows figured out what we were attempting to do he might be tempted to try and abduct me like he had Applebloom http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6505853 since I was a critical component for success. Assuming this idea would work at all. That is where the testing came in.
We had to determine the fastest way that I could accurate recreate Celestia's sun symbol that was the same size as the planetarium floor. Of course I would not be able to see the whole image at one time so it would be hard for me notice if I was getting things out of proportion or alignment. Answer stencils and snap lines. Also we had to determine how much paint would be required to create the symbol. Twilight went over various strategies and Luna crunch number on her abacus until my eyes bled. Searching for the most efficient way to accomplish our task. After awhile it all kind of blurred together.
However it was still taking far too long for me lay out the stencils and snap lines myself, and what we do with the leftover stencils, paint and brushes. Fortunately it was discovered that I did not have to touch every facet of the creation of the symbol just the applying of the paint. So we created a team to assist in the setup of the image. They would teleport in with Celestia and I, then help roll out the stencils. As the symbol was created they would be then teleported back out with pieces of the stencil and the empty paint containers. In the end the team consisted of Twilight, Petina, Luna, myself, Celestia, Applejack, Rarity and Rainbow Dash.
There was just one remaining little, teensy, nagging problem that had to be tested. Could Celestia's protective field be extended out enough to keep me from being incinerated by the fiery creation I was to bring to life? Also would I still be able to cast my own magic or would her field block it, or worse would my magic cause her field to collapse and we'd both go up in flames!
Petina's answer was pile some firewood on the floor. Douse it with oil. Have Celestia stand alongside and plant my sorry flanks on top of it. Ignite oil. See if her field was able to protect me at all. Have lots of buckets of water handy to extinguish me if test failed. It did several times until we found the right combination. Fortunately Celestia has a really good, fast healing spell; which is good because I needed it!

Very good. All I can say is the more you do it the easier it becomes. Also don't be disappointed if you have dry spells when it just doesn't seem to happen. I had a few spots a couple years ago when I was really stressed and I was very lucky to have two dreams a week I could remember.
Interesting. I admit I'm a bit envious that my dreams are never as coherent, or consistent. It seems as if your dreams are stories, rather than the jumbles of information and random events that I'm visited by.
I really like the idea of copying Celestia's cutie mark (correct term? Sorry, not a follower of MLP). It's simple, tried and true, but not a blatant macguffin. I also like how you sketch her royal highness. Very fluid. Cartoony, yet tasteful.
An improvement over Vipera's experiments, no?

I love the two scenes at the bottom, where you're looking terrified at whatever Luna is showing you with her abacus (or maybe you're just terrified that your life is resting on technology this primitive?), and the almost Phil Foglio-looking scene of poor Celestia dousing you.
Hmm, I wonder, what's going on outside in Equestria while all this is happening? What is the Lord of Shadows doing to the ponies in the meanwhile?

No the horror was trying to keep up with the math she was firing at me with machine gun like precision. "Now if X is the combined overall length of all brushstrokes, and Y is the overall diameter of the symbol. Then Z is blah ratio of blah. This means you have blah, blah, blah the radius to less than blah, bleep, blah unless bleep, bing, blah the number of brushstrokes." Math is not really my strong suit.

Mercifully it nothing was happening outside to Celestia's ponies. It was almost creepy which made us feel as if we running on borrowed time.

And the Heal includes a hair-regrow? Ow.
(A little more fluid to put out the last of it. The smell lingers, doesn't it?)
Oh, I'm sure Petina was quite "diplomatic" about suggesting Celestia stand closer to you. Randy filly is right.
I do have to wonder why you couldn't place the summoning image well before bringing LoS there and claim it's just part of the design. Or are you trying to fit the drawing between two other events?

On that note; do you have all five senses intact in your dreams? Sight, hearing and feeling are obviously in effect, but do you smell and taste too?
In the case of almost all the Equestria dreams I have had all five of my senses which really gives one a feeling of immersion when you're having a dream. Often I will only have sight, sound and touch. Sometimes taste or smell.

I guess nobody wants to watch people getting burned alive several times in a row, even if they grabbed your butt.
I might be wrong, but Celestia and Luna appear to look like slight repaints of each other. In the show, I don't think they're supposed to (and I don't have the sheer spherebag to find out if the toys do), but in this picture it reminded me of the old Masters of the Universe toys, where He-Man and Skeletor owned the exact same weapons and equipment as each other, except colored differently.

Yes it did hurt like hell since for these dreams I had full sensory perception, but Petina was rather cavalier about the thing. "It's just a dream, remember?" Was her attitude, and when I brought up the fact that it still hurt like hell she gave me that "Walk it off!" look.
